Building my first website?

I am about to start work on my first real website, its going to be promoting a click bank product. I am going to go with seo and organic traffic as I do not have the money to pay for ppc. What would you recommend i use to build my site? I have abobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver I only have basic skills but there are plenty of video tutorials on YouTube, Or would I be better off just using a blog? As that will save lots of time? What do the search engines prefer?

Thank you

Have you proven that you can sell the product?

Before I buy a domain name and build a site, I make sure I can sell the product by sending traffic to a presell landing page etc.

Some people simply promote the product without a landing page to see what happens - as a test.

Some pay and some employ only free traffic methods for the test.

Search engines seem to prefer a blog.

A free blogger blog may/can be your answer unless you've already purchased the domain name and hosting.

You'd like to get traffic with seo?

Where are you getting your content for seo?

Do you have a seo strategy in place?

    Hope This Helps!!

It is good that you are taking action and getting started.

SEO is a long-term strategy, and requires a lot of work unless it is a small niche. Even then Google do not favor new sites.

"Organic traffic" is a bit vague - have you thought it through and have a plan?

For your site I suggest you learn Joomla which is an excellent investment in time.

Could you explain that a little more because I've always read conflicting viewpoints. Having tried using both Wordpress and Joomla, I find that Wordpress always comes out on top as the better CMS. Am I missing something that others know about Joomla and it's functionality?

      Hi Samuel,
Google loves WordPress, and you can have WP appear as any website would. You can easily learn how to make your site look like NON BLOGGY. Removing dates is the easiest first step on that task.

To find out the number of words a specific keyword gets, go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

That free tool will show you searches per month. Choose 'exact' for the match type in the small drop down box on the right.

Have fun with your first site and be sure to let us know how it goes and how we can help.

Hello. Oh well, this is my first post. Seems like a great community. Joomla is great and easy to use but for your purpose, I would not really recommend it as a start. Why? Joomla comes with loads of features to be used as a 'full' site. Many sections, integration with forum software. I'd personally use it more for a 'mother site'. As for your concern, I would highly recommend you buy the $7 secrets script. There you will find templates that you can easily edit to suit your needs. Although these templates may be just a little bit outdated, they will just give you a good idea about the basic look. Then you can snoop around and see some of the new offers and how the 'fancy new' sales pages look like. Since you're not selling your own product, I think you do not need the whole $7 Secrets scripts. Although they are cheap, I may be able to send you at least the sales letter template to deal with, Is that legal? Investing time and effort in getting to know Joomla, Wordpress and the $7 secret scripts is definetly worth it. Wordpress is great for a blog, $7 secret script is good (as a start) for selling your own products and in my opinion, Joomla would be great if you intend to create a 'mother site' which you can be contacted and which connects your other websites and deals with your visitors concerns.

    Hope I've helped.

  • I recommend either Joomla or wordpress.org for your website. Although wordpress is the most popular nowadays.

Good luck on your website and newfound business!

      Direct quote from Wordpress site:
SEO Smart Links provides automatic SEO benefits for your site in addition to custom keyword lists, nofollow and much more.

SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

Further SEO Smart links allows you to set up your own keywords and set of matching URLs. Finally SEO Smart links allows you to set nofollow attribute and open links in new window.

Everything happens completely transparent, and you can edit the options from the administration settings panel.

    Hi Samuel,
Welldone in taking the first and positive step to start. As for building a website and the easiest way, I would highlly recommend wordpress self hosted on your own domain.

As for kewowrd research when looking at those figures of how many searches are there, do bare in mind that a % of the searches are conducted by webmaster themselves in their research and to see how their sites are doing.

Apart from that, you seem to have a positive mentality and have a sense of direction in what you want and what you have to do - all that remains to be said is, good luck mate

Some of the fastest indexing I've seen with Google has been YouTube videos. Video is very hot right now, Frank Kern has a free video out right now talking about his "triangle of trust" that begins with video. It is worth searching for.

A self hosted Wordpress blog with a plug-in like 'all-in-one-SEO' also enjoys very fast indexing. From a programming view point, WP is specifically designed from the ground up to be standards compliant, Google likes that, itself being built on open source standards. In my understanding, at least in the past, Joomla had some standards issues.

Hard coded pages tend to do poorly in comparison in my tests and I've read other people have had the same results.

I agree that before you get involved with setting anything up, even before purchasing a domain name, discover the key words your intended market searches on.

Ideally, you'll want keywords in your domain name.

If you take every step considering your market while continously asking yourself if what you are doing provides them with something they value then you will be on the right track.

I concur with all the WP voters, it's simply the flavour of the times we live in at the moment, there is also a program out there Samuel called Artisteer, from that program you have many options & from memory you can trial it for a certain period of time.
