Publishing books with quotes

Hi all,

Is there any other advices about publishing quotes in the Kindle/Createspace.

I would like to take a subjet (love, money, ...), go to the web and collect 100-200 quotes about the subjet, put them in a book and publish them.

Nothing to invent or add... Just a collection of what people said with their name.

I don't want my account to be closed by Amazon. Is This the correct way to do things

Thanks!!

  • 1. There are about 27444 books on quotes in kindle, therefore it does not appear that Amazon has an issue with selling books on quotes. However this does mean that with the enormous amount of competition, you'll have to try and find a way to stand out by creating something unique, or by being different in your marketing, your eCover, etc.

    2. Even though many quotes are already posted all over the web and people seem to freely share and use any and everyone's images and quotes etc, (some legally and some not), you will want to be careful when going to someones website and simply copying a bunch of quotes and pasting them into your own publication. The website owner(s) may have an issue with that.

    Hi Pierre,

Here is a different method that you can use to achieve the same goal (and have someone else do all the writing )

    1. write a short list of 3 or 4 questions on a certain topic.....be very specific, so that you get detailed, quality answers from people. Ask for their name and email address, so that you can send a free copy of the book to people who fill in the survey

    2. upload it as a survey on surveymonkey.com --you can get a free account there

    3. ask your subscribers, friends, colleagues, etc to go to the link to your survey and take ten minutes to fill it out

    4. compile, edit, format and upload the survey results as a kindle book and paperback

    5. When you promote the Kindle version as a free giveaway, send your respondents a link to the free book

Using this method, you get UNIQUE CONTENT that you own the rights to. You would really need to craft a unique, eye-catching title, so that your book stands out from the crowd.

I plan on using this method with a number of topics over the next few months.

Hope that helps....have a brilliant day,

i dont think thats going to be a problem with amazon, the question is how are you going to sell that? i mean who would buy a book with quotes that you can look up on google? try to find a hook too selling youre book, (ex: have the book with quotes but have them in chapters, and at the end explain to people how they can apply it to their lives) somthing like that could work, you also have to find the right target people for that too.
    hope this helps

I'm guessing many quotes by famous (dead) people are in the public domain. But be careful using quotes from people still living.

Why would you like to do something like that? The internet is full of quotes, you can find anything at a touch of Google...

One wrong quote used and you are in big trouble.

If you use a quote and correctly document (cite) the quote you should be fine. That way you can show that you at least made a good effort in the direction of making sure the quote is legit.

There are many so called "funny" web sites around that make up quotes just for fun and assign them wrongly just to make a joke and then other copy the quote and publish it out of context.

Might be fine in a lot of cases but there might be people that do not think it is funny and those people might find it more fun to sue you.

So, I would not use any quote from a living person without prior written agreement and if the person is no longer alive I would find the original publication that shows the quote use proper citation.
