About to start a new project. Advice Needed.

Hey guys,

I'll give you a bit of background first.

1.I'm a newbie when it comes to IM.
2.A year ago I started my own E-mail list on Bodybuilding. I wrote about 25k words worth of E-mails and made a few products.

The problem was after the 25k words were done I'd run out of content and had nothing more to give.

Also, I'm no expert on Bodybuilding. I chose it because I do it 4-5x a week and I have passion to do it but my knowledge is pretty limited.

In the end, I decided to stop doing it based on the fact I didn't feel I could ever offer true value.

The main lesson learnt was you need to be able to offer something solid, I couldn't.

Right, enough of the story.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So now I'm thinking I need to start taking action.

I have an idea of setting up a new list but in gaming.

I play Fifa 14 A LOT. I'm not the best player but I'm pretty good and I've experimented with my own ideas for quite a while and know I could produce some good content.

I also know I could create new content by continuing to experiment.

I have the passion because I play on it everyday.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you need advice then?

The last time I spent almost a year writing content and it was almost for nothing.

This time I want to be more prepared.

I've learnt my lesson in terms of knowing my stuff, been able to produce my own content and sustain it.

However, I know there are a lot of other people making youtube videos, e-books etc.

What kind of research do I need to do to get an idea if it will be worthwhile?

My idea was to set up a site which is Fifa for beginners.

I could upload articles, videos and podcasts.

I wouldn't try sell anything to begin with and just concentrate on building my list.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Joe

The gaming niche even for individual games is quite packed but do things right you still have a chance, whats a little bit of competition if you have some character for people to latch onto.

Id be looking at sharing videos, setting up games and challenges online, sharing stories about your games and also advice and tips.

Maybe get some others involved too writing their stuff about Fifa too.

Put AdSense on and then thats a way of monetizing, but be sure to build your social profiles and get people connecting there.

Try come up with something to capture leads, send out a newsletter every week, but entice them with a free offer, maybe The Best 100 players on FIFA 14 etc.

You could also ad Amazon affiliate links to the game or consoles etc for extra ways of making money.

Maybe another thing could be arranging a league or competition between people online and even give a prize to the winner, charging for entry.

      Thanks for replying.

I was actually just thinking now about making a small E-Book and then trying to make my first sale.

If I could learn how to make my first sale selling a cheap E-book then I could maybe look at Affiliate Marketing after that.

That seems a good path to go down.

      Thanks

Since you are actively body building ..personally .

You could have done many things.

    1. Study everything and teach other people what you learnt or find

I have learnt you don't have to be Top expert to build a list,.there are people who don't even know a thing about body building. you can teach them,...and at the same time teach yourself by studying and practising.

    2. You could have hired someone to write solid content

    3. You Could have positioned yourself as a curator...sharing useful information on the topic to subscribers from all over the web.

For example i once subscribed to a guy...who was documenting his journey in the creation of apps .

He was not a pro..but I subscribed. You can position yourself the same way.

You asked for opinions. Mine is...you are going down the exact same path you took with bodybuilding. Time SPENT an NO return on your tme/effort investment.

How much of your time do are you prepared to waste doing your second project the same way you did your first?

Is there a market? Certainly for BOTH areas, yet, you were unable to cash in on the first one, a niche which is making other Warriors untold fortunes. What makes you think you will do anything different with your gaming?

ASK yourself this: What are these gamers actually buying?
    From WHO?
    WHERE?
How much are they paying? For what? Why?

What can you offer which is different than what is already available?
An ebook for gamers? NO. Unless it is full of cheats, hints, secrets you have actually used.

My opinion is... You need to work on your thinking regarding your IM plans, which haven't worked out so far, have they?

Spend your time finding out for certain what the market wants, is already buying and THEN, plan your step by step strategy to give them what they want.

Your methodology is all about what YOU want. You are doomed to repeat the past unless you change things up.

You see one of the biggest problems new IMers are having is that they are blogging something or starting something they are not passionate about.

They are blinded by the "money" perspective.
Yes, the body building niche can make you money but you are not even passionate about it.

It would be hard to persuade someone else into your offers.

If you are truly passionate about fifa 14, I would suggest you blogging about it.
Maybe even live stream your games on twitch

Try spinning the content with smart spinners like Word AI. Well, spun articles aren't so great and has many errors. But, you can edit the errors and still, it will be unique. Usually, I spin the articles I wrote for tier 1 to use for tier 2 or tier 3. However, as you're doing email marketing, "tier" doesn't really matter. Good luck mate!

I suggest you to first go through your competitor products and do a bit of analysis on them. How good is their product, how do they promote, what do they lack etc. If they are cheap, you can even buy them and find if it is useful or not.

Once you create the product, make your site standout from your competitors. Build content rich authority sites based on long tail keywords to bring in laser targeted traffic to your site and send them to your money site. Don't forget to build your list at the same time.

Pick something that you have a passion or liking for. This way you will stick with the niche for much longer and will be able to deliver value for your customer. Create good articles, engage with your customers on emails, join forums that are for your niche. Learn and spread your learning.

In the Bodybuilding niche you could make good money without writing a single word!! You don't even need to be an expert...

If you decide to promote info products on Clickbank (on Muscle Building, Strength Training, Weight Loss etc), go for the most popular ones. Then you can simply visit the "Affiliates" page of that product, and there you will find EVERYTHING you need! (articles, e-mails, banner ads, keywords, pre-made Facebook or Google Campaigns and so on...)

It seems like you might need to dig a little deeper as to who exactly you are marketing to, in either niche. For Fifa is it people just getting into the game, young kids more just for the game or older people in it for the football aspect. Utilize your passion and knowledge together and never stop learning, but remember it needs to be the solution to a problem or need that already exists or that you can easily help people realize that they are suffering from said problem.

Pick a niche you want to work at for a while, learn the different methods of marketing (traffic generation, conversion, upsell/cross-sell/sales funnel), find (or create) products to sell - test them and then expand.

Looks like Bodybuilding doesn't float your boat anymore...gaming could, but will you tire of that in 6-months as well?

You have to pick a market to serve, then continually serve them...that can be through building useful sites and offering products while others send you traffic (jv/s/partners) or it can be you generating traffic and lists, etc...

This is a business after all - just because you are using the internet doesn't mean that the fundamentals of successful business are out the door.
