Buying domains on SEDO...is this normal?

I saw a domain I wanted listed for sale on SEDO. I met the asking price but the seller has not responded to me.(it's been 4 days)

Is this normal?

Will I automatically get the domain at the end of the 7 days since I met the asking price?

I'm trying to figure out why someone would list their domain for sale and set a price then not respond when someone offers to pay it?

Should I just buy a different domain or am I missing something about how SEDO works?

I'm holding back a project waiting for a reply on if this domain is really for sale or not...
Thanks,

Aaron

    Hi Aaron,

it can take more then a week or two also. Sedo are very slow, if the seller won't respond after a while you'll get an email saying there was a problem with the sale...

so don't worry, sedo is a pain

Yep, I had a similar experience. Sedo probably hasn't even let the owner know he/she has an offer yet....

The sedo is just a brokerage that connecting the owner domain and you as a buyer.
All conducted in the system. So, it depend on the domain's owner in the respond. If the owner don't active to guard their communication it will take a long. But, so even though sedo is a safe place to buy the domain.

      Hi Aaron,

I haven't had any of the above bad experiences as a seller at Sedo.

I saw a domain I wanted listed for sale on SEDO. I met the asking price but the seller has not responded to me.(it's been 4 days)
Firstly, did you officially make your offer through the system?

Secondly, are you aware that a seller has the option to accept your bid but also send the domain to a 7 day public auction? If it has, it will show in the 'featured auctions' section in the top right box on the sedo home page (click the 'more' link in the bottom right of that box to see them all.)

You should have received communication from them whatever has occurred IF you have gone through the offer process correctly. Perhaps their emails to you have got lost?

It's NOT normal in my experience, and the only problem I have had is with a non paying buyer.

Here are some examples of the communications you get as a seller -

We are pleased to inform you that a potential buyer has made an offer for your domain, ***********.com!
Please respond to this bid in your account under "View Offers" or click on the following link:

Please note, that you will receive reminder mails about this offer, until you respond and you will need to submit at least one counter before you can cancel the negotiations. This process was designed to ensure a communicative and successful market place.

      blah blah (upsell for appraisal)
      Then you get -

Both parties have now confirmed their contact details and the sale of **********.com can now proceed. A payment request has been placed in the buyer's user account and an email has been sent asking them to make payment for this domain as soon as possible. We ask buyers to make payment within 10 working days.

Should the buyer not make payment within the first 7 working days they will receive an automatic email reminder and your transfer agent will make every attempt, both via email and telephone, to contact the buyer in order to determine when payment will be made.

You will be contacted once your transfer agent has received confirmation that the payment has been received and processed.

Please rest assured that every effort is being made to ensure that the buyer makes payment promptly, and we shall contact you when there are further developments to report.
So I would assume they are allowing the seller X amount of days to respond, then they will mail them, then they will contact you to let you know of no response - if that is the case.

      I would guess it's the same 7 & 10 day thing.

There was a "desired price" listed and I entered that price and clicked on the blue "make offer" button.

In my back office it shows under offers I have made my offer on this domain.

In the back office it says "please wait for sellers response".

Also it is not found in the auctions section.

Can they wait 7 days to accept and then put it to an auction that will last another 7 days?

They are asking a large sum for the domain so I don't want to go buy another domain and then be on the hook for this one as well, but I also want to move forward with my project.

I hope I am able to withdraw my offer soon if they don't respond in the 7 day period from my initial offer?

        Thanks,

        Aaron

I don't know but I guess so. My advice to this is the same as what I would advise someone if they were about to enter into a bid - read SEDO's T.O.S.

Sorry, I know it's a bore, but if you are spending 'a large sum' then it only makes sense.
