Hi all,

For building a list i will place opt-in box in my site. But i have no idea and prior experience about this. In this regard, i would like you to suggest me and give your opinion about the following two issues for an optimum result:

1. In how many page should I put the opt in box? I mean should i put the opt-in box in every page or just in the "Home page" of my site ?

2. In which location should i put the the opt-in box in a page? I mean at top right hand corner or at middle on the right hand side or anything like that?

With regards,
Ehsan

  • It is advisable to put the opt-in form on the page where you are sending your traffic to, people usually create a special optimized landing page to send their traffic to.

in case of a wordpress blog, you can place it on the sidebar

    good luck,

        Hi alexa,

thanks for your reply. i hope you have read Jay's posting explaining the split testing which i should do.

Are you talking about the same split-testing about which Jay is telling me?

    Hi Ehsan

Without knowing a little more about your site, we can't really advise you which route to take.

If you are blogging, then you can insert the opt-in form into your WP theme and it will dynamically appear each time your theme is loaded, regardless of post/page...

But, if you are talking about a regular HTML website, you may need to insert it on a page that you are driving traffic to, or even better.. you should create a specific page for capturing details. A landing/squeeze page is advised if you are to build a list.

Having one page that points out the benefits of signing up to your list and offering a "freebie" of some sort is always a good idea.

    Peace

        Hey Eshan..

        If that was my site..

        I would split test this:

Place the opt-in form on every page in the top left hand corner above the page menu, and then on the opposite side at the top right hand corner.. just below the click here for free shipping banner...

Test the opt-in form in the top right and top left to see which works best for your niche...

Then.. I would also test the results from having it down the middle in two places, top and bottom.. as it appears that your home page is a bit of an introduction to what your site can do for the visitors.. it can't hurt to test it in the middle too.

        Peace

          Thanks again Jay,

So you are telling to put the form in every page. well i will do that, but is there any need to put the form in "Contact Info" page? Will there be any problem if someone put their information in the opt-in form more than once? it might happen, though a little chance.

I will do the test as you mentioned. i would like to know your opinion about one more thing. During the test should i keep the 720x90 sized banners at the top of my pages?

          Thank you for your time.

          Regards,

Ehsan, if your page is a content-heavy page with a sidebar (as yours is) then there is no need to worry about what page it goes into or not; if you put it at the *top* of your sidebar and just leave it there it can go on every single page and won't mess anything up or look out of place.

If this is in fact your situation I would recommend taking a little bit of time to style the box so that it jumps out a bit from the rest of the content. For example your site is mostly blue/gray, so make the form a light orange that stands out without looking too garish.

Another option if you don't actually want to have the form be on the sidebar is to put a shiny button that stands out (again, with color, font, shininess etc) and have that button go to a single page with the form in the middle. It's your choice to try and test each way

      Best regards,

Ehsan, how about placing opt-in form in the uninteruptible pop-up? It's based on javascript.
Try to find javascript to make a kind of this popup. So, when your visitors come to your page the popup will show right in their face.

When you use a wordpress engine you can add the plugin namely LightPop. I use it at lcdrepair.warnetnews.com You can see how this plugin works.

    Hi Eshan

Looking at your site it has a lot of leaks, eg the banners at the top and left underneath the navigation menu. Are these links making money for your site, or just taking away your hard earned visitors?

Also what will be you offering in return for my email address? Just adding an opt-in box won't automatically make me want to enter my e-mail. Could you create a report on weight loss, or convert a PLR report into your own unique version by getting an ecover created with your name and how you want to brand yourself?

With a free report you would then have the option of using an exit pop-up where you thank the visitor for their time and offer the report.

Lastly what autoresponder are you going to use? Please start with something like aweber or getresponse so that you know that in a few weeks / months time you're not going to have to change as your messages aren't being delivered and the customer support is not answering your questions ect.

    Hi,

If you are using a special/optimized landing page - put the opt-in form on it.
If you want to put it in a blog - use the sidebar, or header.

In both cases make sure that the form is above the fold and user doesn't need to scroll in order to see and fill it.
