Gumtree has "blocked" me

Hi everyone,

I just started (2 days ago) selling some personal stuff (unwanted gift items) on gumtree. I sold 2 items successfully so far. I sold the 2nd item yesterday and then deleted the ad. I then place an ad for the third item (product being same as the second item, except that I increased the price to include postage in the ad). Without any warning, my ad was removed and I was prevented from logging in. I have read their rules and T&C over a dozen times and I have not violated any of them. I am just so angry.

I raised a 'ticket" through their "contact us" link on their website yesterday and I still haven't received any response. Just so completely inept.

Just make a new Gumtree account. Life is to short to worry about things like this. If necessary use a friend's details and a new (cheap) mobile phone to get a different number.

      Thanks David.

I'm looking for other options now.

No point wasting time on gumtree, apparently this problem is quite common. I guess they prefer scamsters as opposed to genuine sellers.

PS: No idea how to thank you - couldn't find the option under your post.

I have been using this site for a long time, I think you have broken the sites rules & regulations, as you are blocked, so please make a new ID by new User Name & Email.

But that is the problem, I haven't broken any rules. It was just one simple ad for a pair of cufflinks.

What rule could I have possibly broken? I guess it is my ego that is more hurt...lol and of course their completely useless customer service. I was soooo mad yesterday.

        Just had the same experience.

Created a new account having never used gumtree before. I listed a car for sale with mileage etc.. and the ad was immediately removed and I was told I had been sent an email explaining why, which I never received. I tried again a few hours later with the same result.
I used the 24 hr support chat and was told they could not talk to me about what had happened and I had to email their support department.
I emailed asking why it was happening and just received a response stating confirming they had restricted my access, no reason etc.. so I replied that I had never used gumtree, nothing in post that broke the T&C's etc.. and got a reply that my account was restricted because it broke the rules, no explanation but that their decision was final and any further communication would not be replied to.

I think Gumtree is also a local advertisement center. So it need to check your IP. Where are you from ?

If you came from local UK then i think they did not block account.

Trouble is the world is full of con artists and sites like gumtree are a bit paranoid.. New accounts are the easiest to monitor. Maybe its better to just move on and next time make your first few things all different and low value? establish some trust?

I have used Gumtree for around 4 years or so and never had a problem.
I think you must have done something wrong that you're unaware of for them to ban you as they would need a reason of some kind.

Hi, had the same issue with ads being removed, had account several years, contacted Gumtree via live chat and they said they couldn't help, emailed and received a reply related to a different topic (victim of fraud issue asking for details to register police complaint), rang and was told it was because my account was restricted and to wait 24 hours when my account should be working again because Gumtree couldn't see a problem and had removed restrictions.

Waited 48 hours and tried again, same problem, account still restricted, was told if I just create another account it will be blocked because phone numbers etc will be linked

Really painful, just want to place an ad for a legitimate reason, and without rationale or reason am being blocked, have never used the site for anything dodgy or illegal.

Will look for alternative sites to place my ad, obviously Gumtree have a business model that they think will work by preventing their customers from using their site.

Agree with the comments above, life is to short for this pain

Gum tree is one of the top level classified ad posting site, I have been using this site from many days. Here you mentioned that

"after deleting your old ad, you place an ad for the third item (product being same as the second item, except that I increased the price to include postage in the ad)"

Though you deleted the old one, the the gumtree still found the old one. So the gumtree may found the plagiarism. Plagiarism does not allow by the gum tree.

What most no one will tell you is that you need another IP address to sign up - there is no point signing up with any other details if they record the same IP. Think about it? That is THE most important factor if you are going to open another account. I feel for you!

    Hopefully they include your own website with your own domain on your own hosting. (;
