See Widget Screenshot Here: http://twitterbrick.com/images/widget.jpg marked in red with all the areas that do not respond. This is the other site using a Woo Theme that I upgraded that has the same problem. I was done designing this site, so I haven't downgraded it yet. | |

Does anyone know how to resolve this error?: Warning: gzinflate() [function.gzinflate]: data error in /home/growingp/public_html/wp-includes/http.php on line 1787 I'm a wordpress newbie. Just put this site up in March. On Tuesday I did an auto upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.8. Everything seems to work fine except I get the above error showing in a sidebar widget. If I remove the widget the error just moves to another sidebar widget. I disabled all the plugins and re-ran the auto install, but nothing changed. I followed another suggestion from someone and downloaded another http.php file and overwrote the current one, but that made no change. Someone suggested a manual install, but I hesitate, because I've never done that and would hate to mess things up worse! Any suggestions or if someone can point me to easy-to-follow manual upgrade instructions I would appreciate it! - Thanks, Benda |

I'm working with a WP designer on a new theme and I deleted the few posts and images I had in 2.7 and we started with 2.8 from scratch. We only have a few vital plugins that are proven to work with 2.8. So far, no problems. Even embedding video was easy. It's still under design, but functioning well. Martin |

When you have a Wordpress site you have a code combination of 1. the core Wordpress files produced by the development team and 2. the Plugins you adopt, produced by whichever authors you use. Wordpress is a fantastic platform as it allows Plugins to 'hook' into the core code operation and become part of the implementation. If you stand back and think of this this is a recipe for potential disaster on the release of the next core code update and a source of many of the upgrade problems. The Wordpress development team always release a beta version and this is supposed to be used by Plugin authors to check compatibility. It gives them the chance to update their code to ensure that it works with the upcoming Wordpress release. Some Plugin authors update their Plugins very quickly, some are not so quick. Sometimes they react quickly but, due to the code issues, it could take them a while to update their Plugin code. When you decide to update your Wordpress installation on the 2.X.0 release you could be opting into Plugin testing! Whilst the administration panel has that nice message saying your installation is out of date and you should update this is not a good idea with a live operational site. Check that all your Plugins are compatible with the new version before you take action. Have a 'dummy' site in a sub-domain mirroring your main web platform and test this with the upgrade before you inflict it on your main site. Check the new functionality offered in the new update. Is it addressing major security issues or just offering better visuals. If it is the latter then wait for the next bug fix, 2.X.1, and allow the Plugin authors to react to the large number of support requests that they receive from the other unwitting 'Plugin testers'. |

Phew..we have just been caught by the Word press version 2.8 mess...and the more you try and straighten it out the worse it becomes....its actually a small disaster..that has let the WP group down. This latest version should not have been released until some of the underlying problems with the previous version were sorted. Several demerit points WP!!! |

I am so glad you posted this! I have been having problems with my plugins. I have tried everything and still not working. Just about ready to tear my hair out. Really appreciate the posts. I am glad to hear that going back to wordpress 2.7.1 was great and everything is working. I will take the same steps myself. Thanks again.

Thanks to all the posts I am using wordpress 2.7.1 instead of the 2.8. All my plugins work. There are no problems with this version, at least not compared to those I had with the 2.8. It is easy to use and functions.
