I've just received this message from a friend on Facebook:

I'M SORRY TO HAVE TO SEND THIS! Facebook is recently becoming very overpopulated, there have been many members complaining that Facebook is becoming very slow. Records show that the reason is that there are too many non-active Facebook members and, on the other side, too many new Facebook members.

We will be sending this message around to see if members are active or not. If you are active please send to at least 15 other users using Copy Paste to show that you are still active. Those who do not send this message within 2 weeks will be deleted without hesitation to create more space.

Send this message to all your friends and to show me that your still active and you will not be deleted.

Founder of Facebook,
Mark

I'm a light Facebook user and don't know 15 folk on Facebook, and there's no way I'm just going to choose random folk to send it to. Sounds a bit suspicious anyway..is it for real? I'd not lose any sleep if they deleted my account.

Fake, crap mail. Don't pay attention to it -- your account is fine.

seriously... dont you think facebook can tell if you are active without needing you to send a chain mail around?

I have seen the same message on myspace.

Well I didn't get a notice like that.
    Doesn't sound legit to me

On top of that I've not noticed any change in the speed of loading on Facebook.

I've gotten more than a few clients from facebook

lol... and they've figured out how to track how many you send it to as well so you can get your free Olive Garden dinner.

I got that too. It's just more stupid stuff. Facebook would send
you an official email (and they seldom, if ever do that) if they
were going to make such a change.

This is not real. It is just a chain letter. People make these for fun just to see how far they can get them to go.

I got that last night from someone. It's just a chain letter. The original writer is probably having a good laugh.

I told the person who sent the notice to me that FB doesn't need to see letters going around to determine who the active users are. They can do that simply by looking at who logs in.

Also, if millions of users started sending out 15 messages through FB's message system, that would contribute more to any system slowdown. Inactive users simply sit quietly in a database, not using any active resources.

Now...back to my Farm Town session...where was I? Ah, yes...planting more corn...
