Paypal - How to let customers determine payment amount?

I want to use Paypal on a site selling web promo services. The issue is, the amount the customers have to pay is not fixed - it depends on how much they want to purchase.

And how much they want can't be determined in advance.

How do I do this using Paypal?

The issue is, when creating a Paypal payment button, you have to set the price in advance. At most, you can have a drop down menu with multiple (fixed) prices.

What should be done if the price is entirely determined by the customer? How do I generate a button for that?

Will using a third party shopping cart do the trick?

      Ideally, I'd like the customer enter what amount he wants to pay and then pay that amount through Paypal.

    Try this:

    Log into your PayPal account , and go through the steps to create a "buy now" PayPal button.

    When typing in your Item name, make sure that in the Price box you type 0.00 and continue to create the button.

    This used to work in the past.

    If it still does, then when your buyer arrives at the checkout page, they would see, $0.00,
    they would then enter their own amount, and click update,
    this would then show whatever amount they entered. They can then check out.

    If this doesn't work anymore, I apologize in advance.
