I have a site that gets 1.4 million page views, what's the best way to make money from it?

Hello guys, my first post. I'm just looking for advice.

I run a technology and design website that is currently receiving around 1.4 million pageviews and 500k unique visitors a month.

The site is currently making me around $3000-$4000 a month from all the ad networks that I'm currently working with. There are 6 banner ads on the site.

I'm looking to make more money from the site and find better ad networks, but finding good ad networks is tough.

I want to ultimately remove some of the banner ads too but make more money.

Any advice?

UPDATE MORE INFO

So sorry guys, I completely forgot to actually say what type of site it is.

The site is mainly a blog/news. So it's updated 2-10 times everyday with new articles on all sorts of major tech news, design news, new apps, app compilations....etc.

So there are no products actually for sale on the site itself, it's just good content.

Any advice on how to sell ad space myself/directly to clients? I've never had experience in this and wouldn't even know where to start.

I do have an email form which is building, slowly. Currently on 1k subscribers.

I also have a Twitter account with nearly 10k followers, and a Facebook fan page with nearly 20k likes.

I got the site banned from Adsense, because I was one of those dumb guys who thought Google wouldn't notice if I clicked on the ads.

    - Try amazon affiliate links for products on your site.
    - Sell adspace by yourself

Running ads is short term income, why not try to monitize by list building and offer what you have for sale with an email follow up sequence?

The answer lies in large part in knowing who is visiting your site, and why?

With that being said though I'd say 'ditto' on the list suggested by SEOMasters. And possibly selling ads depending on your traffic sources and demographics.

It sounds like it's time to start building a list and creating info products. You have a whole lot of potential there!

Contact some of the higher end ad networks. At 500,000 uniques per month you should be able to get into any of them. Tribal Fusion, Burst Media, Advertising.com, Casale Media, etc.....

Nonsense. The income will be there as long as his traffic is there.

I make $2500 a month with about 10000 -15000 visitor a month with amazon so if niche is suitable and audience is from usa or uk you can try amazon too, you will make lots of money even with a %1 conversion rate.

Any answers here are just random shots in the dark. The truth is no one can give any real meaningful suggestion without knowing your sites context, and visitor demographics.

      Agree with this.

I would generally advise on selling something valuable to your audience.

But, the 'valuable' requires analyzing a lot of factors based on their behavior and segmentation.

Otherwise, getting that amount of traffic is such a great potential for generating income.

Even we don't know his site starting to build an email list is always a good long term strategy to make money with. So start building a list to capture your readers mail. This way you have traffic on demand and the chance to sell over and over again to them.

Look into some of the whitelable ad platforms and then you'll earn 100% on the clicks.

    I would say

    1. Capture Leads
    2. Build out a solid newsletter.
    3. Learn about monetizing your newsletter - and not just through promoting products. You can sell space, etc within the newsletter.
    4. Split testing your ads if you haven't, between affiliate ads, google ads, etc.

How'd you manage to do that? You can't double it? Charge more for advertising slots on your site?

Should give away a free ebook to gain more subscribers and then sell affiliate design/tech products on the backend.

The best way is to monetize it with affiliate products related to the audience. You can also ad Google adsense to it and get paid when people click on the ads.. You should make a killing with Adsense..

Does anyone have any idea what sort of rates Tribal Fusion and other big advertisers offer?

I currently already make around $30000 a month from products and services I offer.

However I just want to maximise the amount I can make from the views on the site, but also reduce the number of ads to clean up the site.

      What is CPA?

I've seen it mentioned in many places but haven't found a good basic run down of it and what it involves, what kind of money it can make you...etc.
