The bounce rate is a percentage of the visitors who will exit after visiting your first page. E. g. if 50% of your visitors sees only one page of your website, the bounce rate is 50%. So the lower bounce rate, the better.

Bounce rate is a percentage parameter which shows that how useful is your website for the visitors. If most of the visitor comes and drop backs without looking much on the landing page and without looking the other pages then the bounce rate will be higher. But the correct bounce rate varies from 25% - 65%. A lower (1% - 20%) or higher (65%- 100%) might be a problem for your website.

By the way what is the bounce rate of your website now?

Bounce rate is such a tricky metric, and I don't recommend anyone really using it. It all depends on the context that people find you and the solution, information, or whatever that you provide.

A 95% bounce rate could be a great thing... IF it means that whatever page on your site they went to was providing an answer to their question and they didn't have to go anywhere else. A 5% bounce rate could be bad, it might mean that they have to go somewhere else on the site in order to find what they're coming for.

It does come down to your site structure, you should take a look at the flow rate of your visitors to see if they are converting for the purpose of your site. For an ecommerce store if they visit the webpage at the homepage but not browsing products that type of bounce is probably considered bad.

But for PPC if you have setup a landing page, opt in form or offer that only involves one page a high bounce rate would be fine.

Visits duration is a better measurement.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.
