Giveaway Events - Good for List Building?

I would like to hear your thoughts on Giveway Events. Are they a good way to build a list?

Thanks

I was the second person ever to do a Giveaway back in March 2004 with my Immediate Success Sweepstakes.

As the person who is running the giveaway you can build a huge list of subscribers. With my EveryoneWillWin site, I was able to build a list of over 39,000 opt-in subscribers in just 60 days back in 2006.

You can get new leads or subscribers by being a participant in giveaways. The problem is you need to join a lot of them now to get good results.

I did find that the best type of product to give away is software. As a note, I did almost all my giveaways manually without using any software. It is when they started to make software to automate the process that everyone and their brother started to do giveaways.

If you have a good follow up series in your autoresponder for those who do opt-in to your list, you can turn these people into buyers and become loyal readers of your email messages.

I hope this has been helpful,

If you are talking about setting up your own... As long as you can attract high quality people to join that have high quality lists you can do very well.

Note the words "high quality". That's the key. You don't need people that only send bot traffic and hardcore freebie seekers to the giveaway. It would just dilute your list with crap.

I think the only way the freebies are really valued is when the recipient is actively seeking the information, otherwise it collects electronic dust. So, that said, make sure you're creating or joining a group with the right theme for your target audience. Best of luck.

As yakim1 says, it is something that did work in the past.

The effort is not worth the out come. It's much better to invest your time in
creating a quality product and then sell it or at least give it away as a single item.

You can't really build a large, high quality list with them but they are still worth the few minutes it takes to join/promote them. Some are better than others too.
