My little formula for creating a successful website!

I'd like to share with you all a little formula that I personally always adhere to when creating a product. So anyway here goes...

Consolidation + Simplicity + Marketing = Sales

Now, before I explain, I have only applied this formula to information products and also web based services, and so far it seems to be working for me. Let me explain.

Consolidation: Can you consolidate (i.e. compile, put together) information on the web that is all over the place? Sometimes Google shows information to be all over the place and people have to visit multiple sites, gain feedback from mutliple 'credible' sources etc. and this can sometimes be very confusing for a customer who just wants the info there and then.
A few years back I created a PS3 YLOD Repair website which provided instant access to repair guides for the PS3 when users experienced what was called the 'yellow light of death'. I am sure some of you may know this. What I did here was consolidate or put together all of the information across the web on repairing the PS3 into easy-to-follow guides and videos.

Simplicity: Once you have consolidated information for a niche on the web, you then need to simplify it. This means making it simple for the customer to follow your guides/videos/informational products/courses etc. There's no use consolidating information and making it difficult for your customer to follow. Not only will this result in refunds, but also make them very unhappy!

Marketing: Without this, the above would never occur. Marketing can also mean getting affiliates, getting traffic (VERY IMPORTANT) and also your sales letter (i.e. is it crafted professionally with your target market in mind). This also means establishing credibility with your customer.

To emphasize how important each part of the equation is, I launched a website a few months ago, and while I adhered to the consolidation and marketing factor, I failed to adhere to the simplicity factor. This in turn caused people to be confused and so they wouldn't use my service as much as I would've liked them to!

I hope this helps someone with their business plans (particularly if you're in the information product industry), though I am not too sure if this formula can be applied elsewhere. Let me know what you think!

Yeah that is a great formula that will work, especially if you understand how to do all parts effectively.

I agree that marketing is the most important element to the formula. It doesn't matter how amazing your product is, if you can't market it properly your success will be limited.

Yep! My own mother harped on those very same techniques and I learned from her that people will pay for the convenience of consolidated information at their fingertips. Find yourself a topic online that has information spread everywhere without any one central source, and then try to fill that void and provide value.

In fact that's the best way to find the next "thing": Fill that void.

This is a good tip for creating quick products quite easily. I use something similar myself when creating quick free giveaway reports..

Great formula! I really learned a lot from this. I will be applying this to everything I do from now on.

Gonna have to print this post out for my notes. Thanks again my friend!

Great! That's exactly what I did when I started my first website on a niche for which I had totally no idea about, By the time I completed all the consolidation, I had learnt a lot and I considered myself near expert in that niche.

Thanks for the great guide and info. My question is why would people pay for services such as for the PS3 light of death, when they can visit multiple sources or whatever to get what they need for free? I mean, I guess I need an example because I am really stumped on my own niche.

I believe it is to do with psychology... people seem to have a sense of security when purchasing a nicely packaged and marketed product. Also offering other benefits such as after-purchase service also helps people who don't want to entirely go about repairing their PS3 on their own without some possible help on the side.

It really is about the honest perceived value they can't get elsewhere!

Thanks for the website template, it was great info.

In my opinion, to crate a fantastic website that converts into $ you need the right PRODUCT, then the right AUDIENCE that you can MARKET to correctly.

    That simple formula = money!

Good stuff! The simplicity is the biggest part that's hard for most people. It can be so tempting to want to make the perfect website, the perfect traffic strategy, the perfect advertising outlet...and just keep waiting until the perfect time to launch.

There will never be a perfect time. Keep it simple starting out. You can always add on things later.

So true. This very formula works on me! Not to mention it is always needed. Especially in markets with tons and tons of info... which happens to be most markets

This is what Frank Kern claims he did in his dog training niche - created his dog training guide(s) from information scattered all over the Web. It was his first big success if I'm not mistaken.

The sad part is that most new marketers don't know the importance of consistent new flow of traffic each and everyday.

Marketing is not a one time event.
