The obvious drawback to S3 is cost. You'd have to determine if it makes sense for what you are doing.

Simply using private links for YouTube videos might be an option. Best of luck!

Well yes, it costs something... but it's absolutely dirt cheap. I have about 100 videos on there that are within my membership site.. some get a lot of views and I pay less than $1 per month.

So for things I'm not trying to rank via youtube, I think it's great

S3 is pretty inexpensive, but as Eve pointed out it isn't free like YouTube.

I don't see why you can't put it on your hosting, but I've always used either S3 or YouTube so couldn't tell ya for sure.

Amazon s3 is the way to go, if lets say you have a secure membership site and are hosting videos for your paying members.

If it is a publicly available video - don't use Amazon. You will be paying for people to watch your video, which is a bummer if they are not paying you!

    Simply use YouTube.

I use e-junkie. Most my courses are several Gigabytes, so I actually store the zip folder on my domain and just point to its location within e-junkie. They secure the transaction, hide the URL and each purchaser has five attempts to complete the download then the secured link will expire. Works pretty good. I've been happy with them. I pay $18 a month.

I am setting up a membership site, they are plr videos I am buying ... so what is safe and not.

If I place on server, they can be ripped off, youtube not an option since it is for membership site, so what is left...hummmmmmmmmmm

As EveGood mentioned since it is a membership style set-up you could upload the videos to YouTube and set the videos to private or unlisted so they are not directly viewable via YouTube. Then just embed the videos into your member area. Your members would be able to view the videos but the public would not.

Use S3 and port them into a Membership site.

We use S3 for our tutorials, even though we could use Youtube but the cost is so low and there are no annoying ads so it's really worth it.

I personally cannot see how S3 does it because the monthly bills are laughably low.

Amazon S3 is definitely the standard nowadays. I've never understood the people who think it is expensive though. It's cheap as chips for what you get... and Amazon is one of the only companies where their prices seem to go down over time, not up. Amazon S3 has only become cheaper since I've been using it.

If the video files aren't too large (I always run mine through Handbrake to get the file size down), and your hosting company offers unlimited hosting, host them on your own server - at least to begin with. Save the files as MP4, and use a player like JW player to play them on your membership site. When your membership builds up, and you have a better idea of what your cashflow looks like, switch over to S3.

I use unlisted YouTube for things like my showreel, but I would avoid it for something people are paying for. Everyone knows it's free, and your customers may feel like they're getting short changed.
