Newbie buys iTheme...but how to build?

I found it very easy to set up a basic Word Press blog. However, I was thinking when I purchased an iTheme that it would be the same way.

Of course, when I activated the theme to my domain it didn't look anything like the sales model.

Do I need to learn CSS/HTML in order to build my site with this theme?

Is there a builder within Word Press or elsewhere that will enable me to create the site?

Thanks.

A Wordpress them should look like the 'sales model' when activated as you should have been sold all the files ( css, page files and images etc) as part of the package.

Having said this could you expand on why it is different?

If you are missing items in the sidebar(s) remember that Wordpress uses widgets and you need to use its internal widget administration functionality to indicate what should be there, and the order of the layout eg list of pages, rss, search , archives etc.

You do have the ability to edit a theme from within Wordpress but that defeats the purpose of paying for a theme in the first place.

    • And I also want to add that you *may* need to know some CSS to make color changes. I've never used iThemes, but some themes don't come with an easy way to make site-wide color changes. This may be the case with iThemes.

You don't say what exactly is different from what you have and what the sales model shows, but if it's a color difference then you may need to dig into the CSS.

The other thing to consider as well is if you have the right amount of content online for that blog and if you have certain category structures that may be needed for that theme. I know for my adsense2k9 theme, there needs to be certain categorys enabled so that the home page looks correct

did you get ithemes builder theme that comes with the child themes? I just got that , supposed to be about as close to wysiwyg as they come. We'll see. IF anyone is real familiar with them, I'm trying to figure out which child theme will work for what I need. I just want to make a one page site/flyer and I can't for the life of me figure out which one to use. I may have to end up outsourcing.
