Affiliate company question - from Merchant standpoint

I have a physical product, a good one in the competitive weight loss market.

Is it really worth paying the big bucks from a merchant standpoint to go with a company like CJ or Linkshare? Or would be I be just as well off with a less expensive program like Shareasale?

I want to be aggressive about this, but I also don't want to flush money down the drain.

And let's say I go with a company like CJ. Why would any affiliate try out a new company like me, when they can be an affiliate for an established company like Walgreens that would sell a similar product? Obviously raising the commission would help, but is there a tipping point where it wouldn't be worth it?

I'm frustrated, because I have a good product with a great margin and no clear direction on how to sell it in a competitive industry.

Next best is CJ and then Sharasale.

There is actually another option that might be even better than Linkshare:
A CPA network. Depending on which network you pick it can be a rocket ride.
Why would you say Linkshare is the best? I believe you, I just would like to know why.
