product download procedure question

I'm a bit puzzled - and embarrassed!!

I've bought so many downloadable PDF ebooks online, but now I have my first product to sell, and I'm stumped!

Sorry I'm being a bit dim, but what's the sequence of events for delivery of a digital download (PDF ebook), FROM the point at which the customer clicks to verify their order on their PayPal account?

Is it get set up (by me, or automatically) from PayPal or my Aweber?

Progress so far:
  • all necessary files are uploaded to my Hostgator account
  • I have a PayPal "Buy Now" button on my sales page (tested and working)
  • I am happy with placing the sales page's URL into my auto responder to email or broadcast
  • what's to stop someone from accidentally finding my product online when it's been uploaded - assuming the SEO spiders eventually find it? Coding is beyond me at present

Just can't remember where customer get sent when they click their PayPal "verify purchase" button , and whether they get to a page I have to set up, or if it's automatic.

Even a link to the appropriate PayPal/Aweber intruction would be good, just so I know I'm following the correct procedure.

Anything else you'd like to know, to be able to advise, - fire away.

Thanks

    Ian,

There are two main avenues to go down. Pick the one that suits you best.

    1) The cheap but non-secure version: Just tell your paypal account to return buyers to your download page (give PayPal that info in your setup). Then buyers will hit the page and download the product. If you do this you should make sure to include the rel="noindex" statement in your meta data so Google doesn't index it. That's obvious. The other thing you should to is give it a strange (non-guessable) name.

    2) Get real software to handle your downloads in a secure manner. DLGuard is what most people here recommend, including me.

    Hi ian

Using something like DL Guard - DLGuard - Download page protector, create expiring download links (not aff. link) is an excellent way to securely deliver your products.

Or, I have been using Third Sphere hosting for years as they offer a hosting acct. with every thing you need for online business for less than combining pmts. for Hostgator and Aweber. ThirdSphere :: Web hosting for small business success! (not aff. link)

    Hope that is some help

    Vince
