I am a bit challenged technically and wanted to know if this would be a fairly simple process or would it be better to hire someone to change my blogger blog over to wordpress??

We could do this for you. And just so you know, here is the basis for what we would do:
    Importing Content WordPress Codex
And if you are ready to do this, feel free to register and post your job here, and we can get started tomorrow or the next day.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Get a host with fantastico, install wordpress using that, which is very easy, then go the admin area and import your blogger blog. Its very easy. Look for a tutorial on google.

This article describes the process of moving from Blogger to WordPress:

And this one describes how to re-direct your links and RSS so you don't lose readers:

          Hi Folks

Something to consider if you do article marketing, those links from your articles will no longer work if you remove your blogs from blogger (unless you keep your blogs on Blogger).

I guess you will need to create new articles to point back to the blogs on Wordpress.

Unless someone knows how to redirect links to the migrated blogs on Wordpress

My recommendation, if your Blogger blog is well established with incoming links, PR and so forth, is to leave it as it is.

Get your WordPress blog setup and going as you would normally.

Do a post on your Blogger blog that you're moving to a new location and create a text sidebar banner linking to your new blog. That way anyone happening upon Blogger page via search or referral would find your new blog.

On your WordPress blog, your first post would announce the move with a link back to your old blog. Then, if you need to refer to an old post of yours, just link to it.

I've done this a few times. If you have a Blogger site of value to you with good search standing, you have to be pretty careful about how you transfer it. I've looked at a lot of well-meaning articles around the web (including a couple mentioned in this thread) on how to transfer from Blogger to a your own site. I've yet to see one that tells you everything you need to know and some will get into a bit of trouble.

While text files are easy enough to transfer, all images and other types of files will need to be transferred by hand. Also, you have to change all internal links to point inside the new site. Many how-tos tell you to set up an HTML or javascript redirect from Blogger. Blogger doesn't like this and probably will shut down your site if they find you've done it. My prescription is to register a domain, then use it at Blogger for a few months before transferring.
