The last several years my internet marketing has consisted of 90% with ebooks. The other 10% is probably affiliate income. Ebooks are nice because once you have a complete product, you just have to find effective ways to drive targeted traffic to it, and if the product and copy are strong, you will most likely profit. The good news about this is, once you have that system set in place (good ebook + good copy + targeted traffic = sales)...you can usually let it ride and it will churn out income. Lately I've been thinking of doing blogging. Creating one blog on a central theme of interest. Of course, I want to mix my passion in the blog with generating income eventually. That got me to thinking, after reviewing the model of blogging...is it the MOST difficult way to make money online? To me it seems so, at least at first. But the good things about blogs I have seen is the snow-ball effect they can have once they have good readership. The traffic becomes very steady, which one can not really pull off with the ebook model above (i.e. relying on adwords, etc.). Would you agree with my this general statement of blogs being the most difficult route for online income? Discuss. I would love to see a good discussion on this as I'm heading down this road. |

I don't think blogging is the most difficult way to make money online. True, they do start off slowly, but once you have them set up - and if you do it correctly for best SEO - then it isn't that hard to keep updating it and marketing it. I think if you are going to have a blog, then your best bet is to have a domain name that has a great keyword phrase that you can rank well with but a keyword phrase that still has a good amount of searches. If you have that then you can do really well with blogging. |

I don't know about the MOST difficult method, but I do know it's one of the SLOWEST ways to get started making money online. At least that's what John Reese says in his Business Accelerator course.

Blogging is one of the easiest ways to make money online. One reason is that targeted traffic pretty much just "shows up" if you are focused and using the right keywords. It also allows you to build a real relationship with your customers. Folks like Alvin Phang from Singapore and many others started their successful business using blogs, and spend little time doing it. Phil McRea is another who really only spends a very short time everyday with his blogs, and makes a great income. So if you don't have a blog, you should, and I believe it should be a Wordpress blog (self hosted). Google likes these better than any (even their own blogs), and they are the most versatile. Good luck blogging - blog traffic is yours! Wayne Sharer |

I'm just looking to build something, of interest, for the long term. Ebooks can come and go, and so can the ways of marketing them (like Adwords costs, etc.). I'm not going to stop the ebook route all together, but I'm thinking of starting a blog so I can have something I can build for the long haul. Then, hopefully once I have consistent traffic #'s...I could even write reports/ebooks and advertise them on that blog. Who knows. The good thing about that is, once I build that relationship with those people, read the comments over time, I'm sure it will spark product ideas I can market to them. This will then combine both worlds for me...my original love for ebooks and the pillar of a blog with traffic.

I'd like to talk a bit about keywords and SEO as they relate to blogs. There are numerous SEO plugins for Wordpress that appear to be quite thorough. Any other suggestions about other SEO or keyword plugins that have been valuable and more importantly, worked.

I've placed that on my blogs as well. What tools are you using to check on keywords? Are you only worrying about keywords in your blog title or are there other areas that need to be optimized? How the weather down under? Cary |

This list gives me hope... Top Earning Blogs - Make Money Online Blogging | Income Diary Some cool blogs right there. Some are pretty simple, just chock full of articles with basic design (Steve Pavlina, for example). Honestly, I just aim for $150 a day and I would be happy because $50 of that will, roughly, go to Uncle Sam. |

Blogging is definitely one of the lowest cost things to start, but it does take a lot of time. I've got a few running right now, and in niches where links are easy to get and people will love you if you just make good content. You can start generating a lot of traffic within a month. If you just rely on SEO it may take months to see results, and that would make it a pain. My advice is to find topics with well developed communities already in place. Put fresh, unique content on your blog, and become a visible member of the community. Then you don't have to rely on ONLY google's good graces to provide you with traffic. |

By the way, anyone know of a good way to weed out comment spam from day one of a blog? Maybe a good widget or plugin?

In general, if you're planning to bring in all of your traffic through SEO (no matter whether you are blogging or selling ebooks), it's probably going to take more time to start making sales or generating ad revenue than it would if you were selling products using PPC. When it comes to blogs, though, there are great ways to pull in traffic while you wait for search engines to index your content and increase your rankings. In particular, if you have truly useful things to say about your niche, you'll draw the interest of other bloggers and posters; and they'll follow those comments back to your blog. Based on what you've said, it sounds like this is what you have in mind, so I suspect that it won't take you a lot of time to find traffic and customers. |

Yes, I'm going after high content articles. All original. Maybe just 2-3 really really good ones a week with lots of detail. A good example of this would be something like ZenHabits.net. Simple, clean, but top notch content.
