What is the recommended Membership Site Software?

I have a website idea, but am still tossing around the idea of whether or not it is something I can turn into a membership site or not. As part of my research, I want to look into membership site software/scripts.

Is there such a thing of installing such a script ... setting up my website ... the deciding to no longer offer memberships (open access to all) ... and not have to re-do my site in the process?

It's not a problem with the script I use (DelAvo) - because a
membership site is, in essence, just a password protected
site. A membership script expands password-only access
and permits a unique username and password for each user.

    That's it really.

So YES. You can setup a membership site and then just
turn-off the password protection, making it an open
    website for the public.

Does DLGuard script come with a login section for members where each individual member gets there own username and password? If this is true I don't see why DLguard would not be the best membership script to use since it is highly praised by most Warrior member here.

I was recently debating between DL Guard and Amember. (I have the predecessor to Delavo - JV Manager - and for various reasons it was not an option.)

I chose Amember and it was a very wise choice, even though it is much more expensive than DL Guard.

The reason for choosing Amember was that users can create their own usernames and passwords, or the software can choose it for them. The script is really good at protecting members areas, such as subdirectories. I wanted to have multiple subdirectories each serving as potential member sites that customers can purchase. DL Guard is not so hot at that.

However, if you only have products to download DL Guard is the better choice. If it is just one membership area, get ahold of DL Guard. The support is quite good, and I don't think they'll try to pressure for a sale if another product is better for your specific needs.
