Dissapointing results

No sales.

That's right. Not encouraging is it?

The segment of my list that I emailed was of 170 people. The list had been made over a 3 month period.

I got people on the list for trying out a bit of content from my product. Well its a course and they did the first lesson for free. Some completed the whole first lessons, some only half, some only saw the first page.

I emailed all of the people on the list for the first time, I hadn't contacted or "spammed" them before, with a 50% offer on purchasing a subscription to the course.

Pricing therefore was cheapest at $11.90 for 3 months, and $38.70 for 12 months. I don't think this was an issue. IMO that's cheap as chips.

My product is good - no my friends haven't said it - my clients have. It's helping people achieve their goals.

Opens ... 23%
Clicks (of total sent) ... 2.4%
Sales .... 0

Any ideas to get people buying my course? Maybe my email strategy is wrong?

I am not trying to bust your bubble, but 170 emails is no where that is needed to test a list out. I mean it totally depends on the product how they opted in such as a free or paid product, the product itself ect.

On average though I want to do 1 to 3 percent in sales total off a generic list and generic item. The more expensive and quality item the more percent I want.

so you really didn't have enough to check a 1 percent rate. Besided all that it takes an average of 4 to 5 emails for me to sell my customers. You sent one.

What was the email you sent??

Do you have any testimonials you can put in your emails and your site of the course?

Email marketing is just one way to market. How else are you marketing your opportunity? Do you have your own website? Do you work on things such as SEO, SMM, and other ways to drive traffic?

So this is the very first email you ever sent them? After how much time.

Considering that, your open rate isn't that bad!

I would start sending them emails more regularly, and offer them some real value - more of what they came for. Also let them get to know you a little bit.

And THEN give them another great offer, after a few days of that.

You can stick your offer in the PS though if you like.

          170 doesn't sound too much.

I have a client that sends out newsletters to over 1000 people twice a month, and only about 300 people open it. So don't get discouraged, just keep doing what you're doing.

Also, try out other forms of marketing. Email marketing is just one of many.

    Hi,

This is my humble opinion. Basically you need to email them everyday at least twice in order to see good results from your email marketing campaign. If you send them in an inconsistent manner or only after a period of time, how will your subscribers be able to buy from someone whom they have not have the slightest clue as to who he is accept when they opted in to your list. Sales are based on the value of your product and the relationship with your customers.

    Hope that helps.

You built the list for 3 months before emailing any of them even once???

A lot of them probably forgot about you and had no idea what they originally signed up for to begin with.

I agree with hustlinsmoke and also wordwizard that you should be emailing them more frequently. If you are giving them some good information, good value - especially with regard to meeting their needs according to why they signed up to begin with - that's not spam, that's furthering your connection with them, just like you would do with any new online buddy.

      This.

People who subscribe to your list need to hear from you on the day on which they sign up (and preferably immediately), and again on either the next day or the day after, and then regularly after that, otherwise your list becomes dramatically devalued.

If you are not prepared to build an ongoing relationship with your people, then its going to be a tough grind for you.one email in 3 months is not going to cut it, one a month may work.

        Good luck

I think something important to think about here is that if you were on the other side, if you had received that email from you, would YOU have bought after the first email? I rarely buy from the first email, even from guys I trust.

    Why?

Because the first time around maybe I wasn't as interested. Maybe I didn't exactly know if that was what I needed. Maybe my cat or my kid distracted me and I closed your salespage, forgetting about the whole process.

Lots of stuff can go wrong and you've only sent one email. Just keep building a relationship with them and if it goes well you won't even need to sell your training, they'll be asking how to suck your brains dry.

I am not sure about the sample lesson you sent them, but you need to make sure it is part of a solid funnel. You need to know what all of your steps are. Send them the lesson on day 1, on day 2 send an e-mail asking if they have started it. If they like it they can purchase the whole course. On day three check on them again and do another soft sell. On Day 4 switch to a hard sell. During this time you could also be sending them other informational e-mail that fit well with your course. The key is to not lose them when they are interested and show them you care about them.

Your open rates were pretty good.

Your click through rates are comparatively bad. Was your link "hidden" in your email body?

Was your copy boring and dull?

Are you bold enough to share that with us?

Hey... It's not a total failure. Your open rate is seriously good. You're off to a great start.

Keep going. And work on split testing different body copy types / inserting more links in order to prompt increased click throughs.

Just my random, 1 in the morning brainstorming session.

So as i notice you have followed all the correct steps to make sales, you offered them value for free, and now you're offering them a cheap "upgrade" of the free course you provided. Your open rate is good and you get some highly targeted clicks.

Only 1 solution really: keep promoting your offer!

Most people don't buy the first time they see an offer, they need to be reminded they really need it, so that's your job now

Hey my friend, it will all come... but a test list of 170 people is nothing... I consider a test list atleast 500 people.

But try to incorporate a few testimonials. Maybe so video testimonials will work well also.

Looks like you may have a really solid product from the looks of the email. Just keep pushing my friend!
