Do not automate humanity out of your IM life

We are sorry to hear that you do not want to take this one in a lifetime opportunity to make money from home.

This is the opening sentence in an email to me from Free Site Sign Ups and is one of the best illustrations of why you should not aim for full automation.

This email was in response to a reply email I sent to Free Site Sign Ups in which they asked for my opinion and feed back as to why I did not complete the sign up proceedure I had initiated.

As you can imagine, I explained my circumstances (when you have your back against the wall, even though you are not convinced, you will give anything a try) and that the reason I did not accept the 'free' site was because I could not afford it (it wasn't 'free' at all!)

The response, was simply a pre-written advertisment for Free Site Sign Ups and did not even acknowledge that I had shared some rather personal information with them since (I'm still an old fool) I had actually thought that their email requesting feed back was genuine.

Please, do not follow this pathetic example as a business model. Automate as much as you like but never automate human contact or response out of the equation.

You might have brilliant content, you might have a superb set of follow up emails but you might also brand yourself as ignorant, money grubbing and non-caring.

This is always an important consideration in our business. We have a lot of traffic coming to our site, and we have to strike a careful balance of being able to receive messages from people, not get spammed, but be sure read and reply to people that are clearly interested customers.

Nice topic. Thanks for bringing it up.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.
