WordPress Directory Theme Equivalents To Vantage Directory

I am in the process of setting up a Directory for my website. This will list service providers in my niche. It is alongside the main information product I offer as I am developing my website away from just being a sales letter and a blog.

I had previously bought AppTheme's Vantage Directory Theme and so decided to pay the extra $29 to upgrade. I have launched it and one of my team is contacting service providers to advertise for a free year there.

However, there are issues with both the design - pretty basic with limited Child Themes available (and I don't really want to try and customize it myself) and functionality. E.g. after the free trial, the customers cannot automatically be enrolled either into a paying program or sent a reminder about paying options.

Are there any new alternatives for 2014 you would recommend, to get a Directory set up from scratch, ideally as a WordPress Theme or Plug-in?

    If by this time you've searched well enough and you still haven't found an suitable alternative plugin to AppTheme's Vantage Directory Theme, then your only recourse is to customize Vantage itself or build another plugin from scratch. It looks like that to me.

    Thanks for this. Someone on the Appthemes Forum has suggested ThemeForest. They have some WordPress Directories including Directory Portal WordPress Theme which has 7,000 customers. There are a few others. I will look into these.

    Please let me know if you have had any experience with any ThemeForest Directory Themes and if you would recommend any and why.

    Dave, your product just looks too technical. Probably isn'tbut I won't something more user-friendly if that makes any sense.

      I'm having the same problem. Vantage looks fine but it gets a lot of bad press.

      I started to look at DirectoryEngine by but it's too new

      I started testing the directory plugin from WPMU dev, but I'd rather find a turnkey solution that I can customize.

      Vantage keeps coming up, but I keep reading bad press. I know I'll have to customize, but I would prefer more features out of the box.

      Anyone care to chime in?
