Coaching ain't cheap but then I can learn from his mistakes. I have been coaching myself on list building and I receive the best ways, hitherto unheard of that actually work.

I vote yes.

I hear very mixed reviews on the issue. The one coach I know is simply not worth the money, but there are many that really are worth the expense. If you want to pick a real coach and not one here to make a quick buck, you will have to do tons of research on and off the forum.

It is really tricky because a lot of coaches only make money on selling coaching to show people how to make money.

Research is the key to finding a great coach.

This is advice I always recommend to anyone who is serious about 'making a dent' in this wonderful world of making money online.

Do your studies, do your research, know exactly what you want out of coaching...

And you will find that there are plenty of people to help you out

Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.

Unless you're looking to get into the circle jerk of I.M. coaching there is no reason to hire a coach.

If you are a newbie having a mentor or at least investing in a training course is definitely smart it could cut years off of your learning curve.

Here's why it is vital to have a coach or a mentor to kick start your internet marketing career.

Assuming you aren't a complete idiot, and that you will follow through as you are supposed to, and also assuming that you realize that this is 'work' just like any other job out there - only you are the boss at the end of the day - the right coach or mentor can change your life.

There are marketers who run highly successful coaching programs that are designed for the right types of people to succeed in this business of 'being your own boss'.

These people have developed reputations as excellent product creators, excellent teachers, and they themselves pay for coaching consistently - once a student, always a student.

Some of these coaches will even throw in email promotions for you if it's a part of the deal.

Imagine you have a product launch coming up and you are looking to recruit affiliates, but everyone passes up on promoting your product - and not because your product sucks - but because these people don't know who the hell you are.

Email lists are valuable assets, and no internet marketer worth their weight in auto responders is going to promote someone or something that they don't know.

These people take their business seriously - and you better follow that lead.

On the other hand, if you have paid a well respected mentor to work with you, the chances of your product getting the recognition it needs in this marketplace increase tenfold when you are aligned with the right coach.

A well connected coach too - that when they recommend you and your products to other high powered marketers, those other high powered marketers start listening.

There's the networking element that comes with the right mentor. Aligning yourself with other incredibly successful marketers who make you smarter instantly just by chit chatting with them.

I am a member of masterminds that have changed my present life, the direction of my business, and my entire future - and that all came as a result of paying a mentor.

If you are worried about spending the money to find one, it's not your time - unless you think you can soak it all in by reading this forum day and night for the next decade.

Above all else, coaches and mentors save you time.

Coaching can help you find shortcuts to success, but a great coach does even more.

My coach inspires by example, teaches by both his successes and his mistakes, and gives all of us a quick kick in the butt to remind us about that most important mantra, "Massive Action".

Even when you start having success, it is always a good idea to find a coach/mentor who is a step ahead of you and keep learning, keep getting motivated, and keep getting those kicks in the arse.

I'd have to argue the point about coaching being expensive though. Some coaches are, others are very reasonable, especially within mastermind or group coaching.

Yes a good coach or mentor is TOTALLY worth the money. They've most likely already been in your shoes and where you are and can guide you and help you from making unnecessary mistakes..

Now where a lot people go wrong, is they dont take the action.

For example, its just like coaching a basketball team. The coach can give plays all day and inspiring talks to his players... but in the end its up to the players to show up to the game and take care of business. Meaning.. taking the action on what their coach has advised...

Now, I know a lot of sports fans get all hung up over coaches... and true .. some coaches are better than others... but if the team loses it's not the coaches fault.. he's not out there playing... his players are...

So, I absolutely believe in having a mentor.. but your success with the coach or mentor is 100% dependent upon you and only you.

For:
- A good coach can cut your learning time drastically. He/she can devote one-on-one time and attention to your specific requirements and iron out any personal faults/weaknesses. An experienced coach can help you avoid making the sort of rookie mistakes most beginners have to negotiate on the road to success.

Against:
- In this business, any Joe Schmo can call himself a coach. The analogies in this thread and elsewhere with other fields, such as sports, are misleading. Professional sports coaches undertake rigorous training themselves and often have to pass exams before they can take on clients. In the IM sphere, people are encouraged to offer coaching as an upsell. And even if a marketer is successful, it takes a special kind of skill to impart that knowledge effectively, and to understand an individual student's optimum style of learning. There's a reason teachers go through years of training.

- You have to know what you want to learn. It's next to useless to sign up for some generic internet marketing coaching. That's unlikely to provide you with any skill you couldn't acquire yourself by some solo research and practice. You need to have a solid idea of what area of marketing you want to specialize in before seeking out a suitably qualified coach - one who's had success in that area, and the experience of coaching others. Otherwise, you'd just be throwing away your money.

- You need to be ready to be coached. If you expect to hire a coach and suddenly become successful, then you're not ready. You're the one who's going to be putting in most of the work - the coach will guide you and steer you in the right direction, but your success will mainly be down to you and your own efforts. Understand this or don't waste your time.

It depends on the type of person you are.

If you're the kind of person who doesn't need to ask on a forum if it's a good idea because you know going in that you're going to conduct your due diligence to find the right coach, listen to their instruction, implement, and in turn gain a ton of valuable experience...then ya go for it.

If you have to ask, IMO you have some tougher questions you need to ask in front of a mirror first.

If you have to ask...then your not ready

here is a tip though, if you want to find out how much a mentor can help, find someone in a niche you know something about and contact them and offer to work on their help desk for free.

I'm betting you will soon be in on little employee chats, where all sorts of ideas and inadvertent coaching will rear its head for free.

the folks that man my support desk are always guiding me around to subjects they want to learn more about and end up getting free coaching just because I like the sound of my own voice

My students think its a good idea. Let me add that a good mentor is one that thinks about the success of his/her students first and himself second, but sadly this is not often the case.

A good mentor will go out of his/her way to lead his/her students towards a successful outcome. Without such a mentor, folks are better off on their own through years of trial and error.

It's a great idea if you find the right Mentor!
This can save you years of guesswork and trying to do stuff by yourself.
It is even much better than buying some online course or such.
The whole idea is that a Mentor can see the lil things that you aren't doing right.
You can never have that with some e-course.
I am saying this after spending a lot of money with Mentors and different courses.
And it's a total win for having a Mentor teach you personally.

I make a ton of money online because of coaching.. The coaching it's self isn't what made the money though. I actually do what the hell the coaches say without resistance...

I still hire coaches, just like anything with coaching you get what you pay for..

It's like everything in Life.

I'm a Fitness Coach in real life, I help people get results faster.
If they wanted to, they could learn everything I teach them for free, but they will have to spend a lot of time researching what I have researched, they will have to spend a lot of time going through what really works and what doesn't.
They'll going to have to spend a lot of time improving on their form, working on their diet, split testing carb intake and work loads, etc.

This took me years to learn, for a fee I teach them all of that in days... But it's important to find a coach that understand your personal need, when I make a program or I teach someone how to be able to create programs and diets himself.
I need to take in consideration what their needs are, how many hours a week can they train, do they have injuries, weaknesses, how much money can they afford to spend on food and supplements, are they going to take drugs, what is their end goal, competition or health.

All these apply to IM, you just need to find someone that is good. Like in everything some coaches are amazing some are horrible.

There's a reason why Phil Heath's coach is making millions a year and the guy a your local gym is making 40 000$ a year.


When I was younger I couldn't pick up girl even if my life depended on it, I went through a lot of dating coaching. Some of them were remarkably good and some of them complete shit.
It happens, sometimes you'll get rotten human being just looking to make money off you. You have to see the Upside and try to learn whatever you can from them.

As crazy as it sounds, I was once happy to get ripped off by one guy in particular because he taught me such a valuable lesson. Not only that, I look at how he scammed me and used that way of manipulating people in good use. He was charming and I figured out what made him so charming.
The important thing is to see things positively.

All to say that without them I wouldn't have had the crazy dating life I've had for the past 5 years.

So I truly think coaching is insanely valuable, even though personally I haven't gone through any in internet marketing since I'm fairly new.
Although it's in my plans in the near future.

You can only learn so much through trial and error.. because we just have so little time to do everything.

Having a coach is definitely a good idea because he or she will definitely show you the way to success as well as point you the pitfalls that you will surely fall into as a newbie marketer.

I would say yes a mentor is a very good idea. But You should try and find a coach that is suitable to your, if you have problems with list building maybe, then you should probably get a coach that has specialised in list building so you get the most out of it.

I've been scammed the tune of 6k for a group coaching program I took on in my newbie days, so I'm a little shy about going there again, even if I do see benefits IF it was with a good coach, who can replicate his success WITH you.

My one just taught me a load of blackhat tactics that he was using 2 years earlier (i.e. he didn't use them anymore himself, his current successes were built on the back of when these tactics were working 2 years prior), and so when I tried to get traffic, it wasn't working anymore. And throughout he kept BSing me about how solid this strategy was going to be, even when I was telling him it wasn't working. In fact, one of the things he taught was to "be a steel wall for the program" when students have doubts, which is fair enough unless the program is bullshit!

One of the questions I asked him about targeting households to send flyers to, rather than suggesting a list to rent (which I know now), he answered to "make 2 intertwined rings with your thumb and forefingers and see which one parts first when you pull, and that is the neighborhood you go for"....What the hell business coaching is that!

I was left broke and 6k in the hole plus expenses trying to make it work (flyering cost a further grand with no return, blackhat SEO cost yet further money with no return).... BE CAREFUL!!

Having a coach or mentor is a great idea. You have to surround yourself with successful people.

Absolutely. Anyone who can speed up your learning curve is always going to be worth it.

Having a coach can be very beneficial. Just make sure you choose someone who genuinely cares about his/her students and make sure you know the terms of the coaching before you sing up.

There are a couple people who go around claiming to be a coach and they're actually just looking to prey upon people who are desperate and willing to spend money on a coach thinking that a coach will do everything for them.

When you get a coach you still have to work, but a coach will point you in the right direction. A coach will save you from going through months, or years of trial and error.

However, you can still be successful without a coach, it's just a matter of whether or not you want to speed up the process and increase the probability of becoming successful by investing in a coach.

There's a mentor and coach for ALL income levels.

I started on a serious bootstrapping budget and still managed to find a month's worth of coaching that did more than pay for itself.

It's not how expensive it is, it's how much more you can make from the investment.

If you aren't ready to put in what it takes then you don't need and aren't ready for a coach.

People want to hear how easy everything is. When they realize it's work they either run, or find a mentor/coach.

You need to ask yourself where you are in that equation

I also seek out other coaching as well. There are some things others can show me that maybe my mentor didn't experience.

Why re-invent the wheel when you can learn from others. Investing in yourself is a very important investment in your business.

It's not so much "a good idea" as being (almost) absolutely essential to success IMHO.

Don't rush the decision. Choose wisely, after lots of research. There are lots of good coaches. Be prepared to dig deep though.

Having a mentor can extremely beneficial as they have the benefit of hindsight. You can avoid the mistakes that they've made and cut the learning curve significantly.
Having said that when looking for a mentor make sure that :

1.) They've achieved the results that you wish to emulate.
2.) The method(s) that he/she teaches you is the method that he/she uses personally to achieve the results.

Yes, having a good coach is definitely vital to your success. A coach has experienced the whole cycle of building a successful internet marketing business. He has been there, he know all the traps and pitfalls. Paying a coach to guide from the very beginning actually cut short a lot of trial and error time, and also make you much less likely to give up in the beginning when things are still not quite working. Remember most of the people fail is because they give up too soon, and that's presumably is at the beginning when it is the toughest. Especially when you don't see any results and doubt whether it will work or not. A good coach help me ride through this toughest period, someone there to help you clone a proven system. I'm very thankfully to have chosen a good coach to start off my internet marketing career!

Coaching is definitely a positive step in becoming successful, what does every professional need to do before becoming the best? That is train with a coach.

Coaching isn't cheap, but trial and error isn't too. You can lose money, interest and maybe even your mind if you don't succeed (success usually has a different meaning when you are on your own), you might even lose your mind.

So its about win some and lose some either way.

Um.. I think they can makes me learn faster. But I think first I need to learn something or at least I know something or I don't know who is real. Because some people think they are guru, they are not

I'm going to say something that 90+ % are not going to agree with , yes coaching is good. Coaching is a plus. Learn from those who have done. Just because the 99% don't agree doesn't mean you should not agree. Just because the 99% don't do it, doesn't mean you should not do it. Do whats good for you not the grater good.

I vote yes. If you have a mentor, you at least know you won’t be making mistakes. Even the sense of security helps.
