Is a product name a buyer keyword?

The issue I'm having is that I'm have low-moderate success in terms of making sales targeting (product name review). I've been working on getting my site on the ever elusive 1st spot on Google and I don't know if it will increase sales drastically. I think the problem is that not enough people search product name review.

So my question is would just targeting a product name (ie. Rocket Spanish) increase sales if I were to increase its ranking right below the actual product website? I know there are other factors such as squeeze page, # of searches etc. I'm assuming that I will get more traffic but are people just searching for product name more likely to buy a product then people searching for product name review?

Hi there, I think that the product name is a good buying keyword in most cases. The key to getting sales is to get a bunch of traffic to your page, so yes - if you increase your ranking, you should see more traffic and more sales. Make sure your page has an interesting title that will make people want to click through and read what you have to say.

I've been using Micro Niche Finder for keyword research with good results. It shows you the "commercial intent" of people searching for a particular keyword. The higher the percentage, the more likely it is that they are looking for something to buy on that particular search.

There's also a way to look up the commercial intent on the net. It takes longer but you don't have to buy any software to do it. I looked up Rocket Spanish and it shows 74% - not bad. I'm not able to include the link to the tool in this post (not enough posts yet), but just google "detecting online commercial intention" and it should be right at the top.

    Hope this helps.

I'd expect a top product in the clickbank marketplace to get lots of brand searches in Google.

However affiliates must use other marketing techniques to get the brand name buzz out there in the first place. Go target some long tails....along the lines of "learn spanish easily"....etc....

Look into the solution that the product solves and you will get plenty of longtails to target. e.g. If you were targeting a product that relieves pain, your longtails will be chronic pain relief, chronic pain tips, relieve chronic pain etc etc I think you get the picture

I haven't really looked at this method as I'm mainly focusing on ranking for people who already have a idea of a product and looking for some more information/assurance about the product. So based on your experience, I'm assuming you would say that you may get better conversions by focusing on a solution to a problem (as in your example above) as apposed to an actual product.

    XYZ Review - NO.

Its a "browsing keyword" and people probably hopping from one site to the other to gather "information". Exception: If your site is really, really good and 100% convinces them to buy...RIGHT NOW, then it might work. Try and monitor conversions.
