Ok, I have to post because I can't find

a "formula" that is going to work for me, with the time I have to spend, resources etc.

I hope I can spell this out clearly enough to get some help.

You know what? I think I will just ask if there is anyone willing to take a look at my blog, and my 2 squidoo lenses, and my 2 aritcles/stories. If there is, I would be happy to do you a favor. Either read something for you and critique it or just help you in any way I can. I have one girlfriend back in South Carolina that has helped me a lot but I feel so scattered. By the way, I have distributed to 10 sites(the 2 articles). On my blog I have a book to sell and also am waiting on 3 Affliliate Sites to accept my application and allow me a link. I know now that not having my blog containing affiliate links before I published it was stupid, I figure anyway. But I hope it is not to late to rescue the whole many hours of work I have put into this. Trial and error can be a good teacher but I am desparate to start earning some income.

Any help is appreciated, denise in Sams Valley OR
PS I have writers block on my blog today
PSS I have a website of my own but it is gathering dust because I named it and then changed my mind about my niche. It could still work for me, maybe, with that title.

If this doesn't make any sense, which wouldn't surprise me in the least, just delete me

    Hi Denise,

How are you planning on getting traffic?

Is the plan to get your traffic just from article marketing, ie people finding your articles and clicking through to your blog?

If so, you're going to have to write truckloads of articles. Loads and loads...

If you're planning on getting traffic directly via the search engines, you're going to need to get some links to your blog as this helps the search engines to respect your website. You also need to optimize your blog for certain search terms so that people find you every time they search for those terms.

I read the articles linked to in your blog - I assume those were the articles you were talking about? At a guess I'd say they were about 2000 words long. That really is too long - it's more work for you than you need to put in, and it will turn off any "casual" reader. There is a lot of debate about exactly how long your articles should be, but it's definitely not longer than 600 words. Some people say 200-300 words is best.

I think the best thing to do is to re-read those articles and see if you can find a way of splitting them up into smaller chunks. That way you don't have to lose the work you've put in. Ideally you want to "tease" the reader and leave them wanting more, so they'll click through to your blog and you can try to sell them something.

Would you mind giving us some approximate traffic figures? For example, how many unique visitors you get a day, how many click through to your affiliates, that sort of thing.

Yes, so far. I have so much to learn but I get overwhelmed with all the different tutorials etc.

I don't want to do this. It's really not for me. To be honest, all I want to do is write books about humorous things and maybe some serious if I can think of something, a novel type thing.

I put my blog link in every article on every one of the 10 sites. Is that what you meant?

I couldn't agree more, but they were all I wanted to write. I am afraid this AM thing isn't going to be for me. I dream of having my own products, my stories to sell, but, I need to make money to fund that dream.

After reading your reply, I thank you by the way, I see even more that I need to do shorter, different types of articles. Not my funny stories and then trying to market a Johnny Carson DVD. Have you ever seen anyone struggle so much with a niche? I just feel I am forcing myself in the AM because I see it as my best chance to make money online. And it is my only "way" of earning income at this point.

I can tell you how many have come by my blog, and I am using Statcounter. That tells from where they are coming from. I will go type that up in Wordpad and place it at the bottom. I'll post this for now though so you can read it if you around

      Denise, thanks again

hi wumil, welcome to the warrior forum.

Affiliate marketing is basically selling other people's products for them, and making a commission on every sale. Most people use a product from clickbank because you can get such a large commission. Some people use amazon, even though the commission is tiny because they are well trusted and they have such a broad range of products.
Digital Products Retailer: Affiliate Program & Sell Online - ClickBank
Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more

Article marketing is a way in which you can drive traffic to your blog. You write articles for one of the major article directories, for example Ezine Articles, and then link back to your main site. The idea is to get people to read your articles, and then click through to your blog. The links you get also help your ranking in the search engines.

I'm thinking you may have found a good niche. I've read your blog and your squidoo page.

Here is what I would do. Write a few articles on online dating services for those over 50. How to find one, what happens when you join, how to write your bio, how to participate in any discussions, and for women how to protect yourself from scavengers and for men how to protect yourself from gold diggers. Each one of those topics could be addressed in 500 words.

Get an aweber account. It's $20 a month no long term committment. You do need a credit card. It's not hard to use aweber. I'll help you if you like. What you're going to do is set up an autoresponder and offer your report as a freebie to anyone who signs up. What free report? Keep reading.

Combine the 6 articles into a report. Hire someone to design a 3D spiral bound graphic cover. You can find people here who will do it for between $10 and $20. Add the cover to your report and convert it to a pdf file. Adobe will give you a free trial of 5 conversions. Or I'll do it for you I have an account with them.

Go back to aweber and get your sign up form ready. Put it on your blog using the add html/java script function. Upload the cover graphic to your blog as well.

The first message on aweber will have your report attached to it.

Distribute the articles to the ten directories over a week's time period. In your bio box say something like Free Report Secrets to Online Dating for Those Over 50 or whatever you decide the title should be. Link the article to your blog.

Set up a squidoo lense for each of those articles and link back to your blog

Set up accounts at these free social profiling sites.

    Gather
    Xanga
    Wetpaint
    Weebly
    Bukisa
    Blinkweb

Use one of the articles as a page or website at each site. Link back to your blog from each one. Mention the free report at each one.

Set up a free account at onlywire.com and onlywire each of the squidoo pages, social profiling sites and each of your blog posts.

Join groups at yahoo that are relevant to people over 50. Find discussion groups for those over 50. Include your free report in your sig and link back to your blog. Participate in the discussions with relevant useful comments.

That should get you some traffic and you'll be started on your way to building a list. Every week send a broadcast to your list with a new tip and a reminder to visit your blog because you just posted about xxxxx.

Ad Google AdSense to your blog through the add html/java script function.

    You are on your way.
