Software For Editing Mp4 Videos

Hi everyone,

I have been using Screencast O Matic (SOM) to record tutorial videos and it is a great low priced bit of software for the basics. However, I have recorded a couple of videos, saved them as Mp4 files and decided I am not happy with the audio commentary I ran on it.

I would now like to re do the audio.

However, the problem with SOM is I cannot import an Mp4 file back into the software to re do some editing on it.

Does anyone know of any low cost software that would allow me to do this? I just want to re-do the audio to a standard I am happy to present to my customers.

Many thanks

Tom

    Camtasia is awesome but pricey.

Try VIDEOPAD for editing or ACTIVE PRESENTER for stuff similar to Camtasia.

  • Since you mentioned "low cost", I would suggest to decide on your budget, and have a look here:

Video Editing Software Review 2014 | Best Video Editor Software | Movie Editing - TopTenREVIEWS

Most of these programs will allow you to import your video, separate or delete the audio,
and then re-record the audio from within the program via microphone.

The other option is to re-record the audio in an external program, ("Audacity" perhaps,) and then import the audio back in to the video program, and sync it to the video.

Since you mentioned "low cost", I would look into Cyberlink Powerdirector 12. You will get allot of bang for your buck, + it has a very active support and social community included.

I own Camtasia as well, however it may not be considered low cost for most.

Active presenter is good, but if you want edit the audio separate from the picture, you'll need a dedicated editing program. I use Serif MoviePlus - you can get the free version from here: Free Movie Editing Software - MoviePlus Starter Edition from Serif (not an affiliate link).

Camtasia is pretty pricey. But seems a great bit of software. I have seen older versions of camtasia selling at cheaper prices. Would this be worth exploring? I just need very basic functionality really.
    Thanks

I would go with Sony Vegas Studio ($50 version) for this, because it allows you to open the audio tracks in an external sound editor, like Audacity (free).

Vegas Studio has a higher learning curve than Camtasia, but it's cheaper and gives you more control, and there's plenty of tutorials on Youtube.

Both Vegas Studio and Camtasia have free 30 day trials.

I think imovie can do this. For windows, Windows movie maker can do this editing, but windows movie maker doesn't support mp4 file. but Firecoresoft video converter and format factory can do mp4 to wmv conversion.

Thank you bwh1. I have used the free cam studio for a few screen capture tutorials but I've had issues with it. After seeing your post above I downloaded Active Presenter and it's pretty awesome. The free version has tons of features. It's fantastic. :-)

    Fixed that for you.

I also bought Sony Movie Studio and have been very happy with it. (Specifically, I bought Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12.)

Professionalism is super-important to me and I needed something more than what a free or almost-free program like Windows Movie Maker could do. There's a learning curve, but once I got the hang of it, I was very happy with it.

Sony Movie Studio is the low-end version of Sony Vegas. It allows me to edit anything I want, including add lower-thirds titles, add/edit audio, create nice transitions and animate graphics and text.

SMS is a happy compromise between a free/almost-free (and nearly worthless) program like Windows Movie Maker and the high-end professional video editing programs like Sony Vegas or Adobe After Effects. It retails for $80-$90, but you can get it at Amazon for $60: Amazon.com: sony movie studio

Or you can get last year's version (SMS 12) for $47: Amazon.com: Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12:...Amazon.com: Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12:...
I got it from Amazon when they were having a sale and scored it for just $34.

I created this nice little intro for my tips videos in Sony Movie Studio Platinum:

For a complete video amateur, I think it's pretty good. As I said, professionalism is super-important to me. Once created, I can drop that little 10-second intro into any video I do for a professional look and feel to my videos. I also created a similar exit (to be added to the end of every video) with a special offer to build my list.

    Hope that helps!

You can do the task with HandBrake or this MP4 Editor.

Both can meet your need. HandBrake is more complicate to handle but free. The latter is easier but is not free.
