Default Are spammers and scammers having a negative effect on Twitter?

Like everyone else here, I'm an internet marketer and I'm getting sick and tired of Twitter being overrun with spammers and scammers. I have a personal Twitter and a business one, and they kind of overlap. Even on my business one, where admittedly I do automate some of the content with Tweetlater, I make sure I don't treat my followers like idiots. I see people automating the same crap on multiple accounts and a lot of the time the spelling and grammar is lacking. These people are spoiling it for us genuine marketers because regular people are labelling anybody that mentions making money online as a spammer/scammer. Type the following phrase into Twitter search for a classic example of what I'm talking about:-

"I've tryed to make money online and been scamed time and time again but not by GDI"

As you can see - the same awful content, leading to the same link on multiple accounts Whilst I'm glad I don't treat my followers and teams like idiots, I can't help but feel resentful that these people do this and probably get some results from it. What are your thoughts?

I think Twitter is all hype, and they will get mentioned about 95% less *next* summer. It's already true that about 80% of the people who signup don't return to Twitter.

As for your problem, there is no way around it. It's part of life --having to put up with all the people who make judgments. The only antidote is to keep improving what you have to offer.

Success,
Sam

You're right Still though, it's difficult when you know you're a genuine and honest person/marketer to see this crap before your eyes, day after day after day.

I wrote an article on EzineArticles about this same issue. It may be helpful to you too because I hate what most people are doing with Twitter. They ARE NOT getting the money they claim nor will they if they continue on this same path. Having 40,000 followers means nothing. Having 300 devotees or fans means everything!

Thanks for sharing that - I agree completely with what you say in the article This part is especially true:-

You are not going to develop any real relationships through automatic messaging!

This is what most of these people don't seem to understand. I am still fairly new to Twitter, I only signed up in late March. I do have a lot of followers, but it's got to a point where I'm not really enjoying being on there because of all this, and I'm tentative about talking about what I do in terms of internet marketing too much. In terms of my personal Twitter, I am on there to enjoy it for what it is, with any traffic/signs ups etc being a nice bonus. I don't mention what I do too often, but when I do pretty much all my followers(whether they are fellow IM's or regular people) don't seem interested. The majority of things I promote are free too. I have some good relationships with some people I've met on there, and I really want to help people make some money and be successful, but it's getting really difficult now. And it's no wonder - these people are making us IM's look bad.

Its like any other craze on the internet, it only is a matter of time before spammers find a way to taking advantage of it . Unfortunately , that is the nature of the beast

Certainly they are. They just post links in their every tweet which is very irritating.

I wonder how long until a spammy tweeter gets their stuff on CNN cause they sure do like to twitter on air a lot.

Like the twitter accounts schilling how to get 10k followers in a week...

But themselves only have 10, Hmm...

Name the platform, it will be abused eventually.
