US State Department Uses Twitter For Intelligence Gathering

Here's how important Twitter has become.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Iran opposition keeps up pressure

Here is the relevant quote from the story:

Some telephone, SMS and internet services have also been restricted, prompting some protesters to turn to the internet messaging service Twitter to communicate.
The importance of such new means of communication was highlighted by a US official on Tuesday.
The official said the state department contacted Twitter over the weekend to urge it to delay a planned upgrade that could have cut daytime service to Iranians.

  • Does that mean the US State Department is full of twits??

What's the official name for people who use twitter again?

Odd to watch CNN for two days presenting Twits as "breaking news" - odd because at the same time they were saying internet access was limited.

And Twitter DID delay it's downtime due to those requests.

Only once did I hear a news anchor make the comment "do we have any verification that these tweets are fact?".

The twitgod must be smiling this week.

From the title of your thread Martin, it
might be inferred that the US State
    Department is short of intelligence.

Careful John, far to many people in the Intelligence business with thin skins.

You don't wan't to encourage a USA invasion of Scotland, I'm sure... Well you might ... encourage them to send their best programmers in first, at the front of the landing craft.

If you capture a few good ones, send some to me in Wales.

      Regards,
      Jeff.

If the USA had a difficult time in Iraq, they'd have an even harder time with Scotland.

        You've seen Braveheart, right?

You beat me to it, but on the same token, couldn't we send mel gibson in anyways since he was in The Patriot (Braveheart 2) after Braveheart? Either way, mel gibson should be the whole first wave by himself, please end his life abruptly. Then the programmers. (Hope I don't get drafted into that!)

EDIT: Department of Defense just sent me a thank you letter that reads "Thank you Don for your tip on the threat to Scotland, we are dispatching a team now to Mr. Gibson's house for further investigation."
