Warrior opinions: latest domain extentions-I really want to know

Hello Fellow Warriors,

I really want to get your opinions on the latest domain name extentions, is this another version of the .mobi or .co ? Or, should we be buying?

I'm tempted, but not sure.

Thanks in advance for your input.

If it's not a .com, stay away. It's just another gimmick so the registrars can extract more cash from you.

Tit's on a bull is more useful than a .mobi or what ever crap extension they decide to roll out.

I agree with you that registrars have created this gimmick to earn more money in a smart way but I think sooner or later these extensions will become popular.

I assume this is because you want to rank well in the organic search results.

The only reason for going with another extension is that the .com version is taken. But that doesn't necessarily mean the .com version is an active website! I always check the .com, .org, .net versions first and if the competition is not ranking very well in Google I'll take the domain, regardless of the extension.
So to answer your question, - go ahead and reserve the domain if the competitive websites are weak.

Even if the dot com version is taken, don't settle for less. If you've got a commercial web site, you want a commercial address, i.e. a dot com.

If the name you want is already registered, find another one that isn't - it's not hard at all to find great, short names in any market.

Having exact match domain names is not so highly prized as it used to be.

Use the tools available to show you some great names you can register right now.

I only buy .com, .net, and .org. Nothing else interests me, particularly all the new extensions. Why would you be tempted by a domain extension that few people are familiar with and few people would remember without clicking a link?

What are people's opinions on having yourname.xyz? I think of all the new TLDs, this might be the simplest one to establish a brand identity using your name if your name is registered (and has been registered with all different kinds of variations) for the last ten years.

Are you doing this for domain flipping? If so, then I believe .com extensions are the way to go.
If you want to build a reputable site, the extension does not matter. Example: Ask.fm it's a huge site and very popular. I hope this helps.

    Go with COMs.

This is what most people are used to.

Maybe in several years after these new extensions have had time to mature in the marketplace they may be worth something.

Right now, I think they are nothing more than sales gimmicks put on by the registrars.

I have 20,000 .com and .net domains and still not a single one of these new gTLDs.
They can be a really good choice for many, but not for me as I already have some of the best.

    Thanks so much Warriors,

I'm only interested in domain names that are "brandable", I'm out of the ranking race and I am so glad. But I do agree that if, it's not a .com, net, org , that people will probably still type in the .com versus . something else first. But, it never hurts to double check , because as you all know the internet stops for nooone.

I saw .ninja domain extensions being advertised on Facebook earlier. Certainly caught my eye!

They are tempting, but if we don't buy, then we don't create a market. That's why I asked on here, just to read what other people are thinking.

It would be interesting to see if someone could brand a domain with a weird extension like .ninja and do it successfully to where it became a well-known name. Has anyone heard of such a case? The only thing that comes to my mind are URL shortening services like bit.ly. Certainly not the most ideal extension but many people know what it is and use it.

.biz .info has been out there since 2001 and i dont think they mature.
who regularly visits .biz .info sites? not me.

how long will the rest of the new extensions take to be popular?
i only prefer .com .net .org

Reminds me of a client I had who didn't even know .net or .org existed. Can't blame him though; he knew virtually nothing about the internet.

There are so many domain extensions now available that it is becoming confusing to remember everything. I will never remember a .cheap or .zone domain unless it is a very big brand.

A few of the new domains might change hands for big money but the reality is that dot com is king and always will be.

Also, forget net, org, biz.....no one remembers them!

      Go for .com every time.

Domains are like real estate -- .COM is the good stuff.. and everything else is the ghetto and a waste of money. Plus.. there are PLENTY of .coms otu there left.

I was almost suckered in...but then I came to my senses and agreed with many in my industry and have decided to stick with primarily dot coms.

    Cheers
