Question about affiliate landing pages

Hey everyone,

I know that you should never send traffic directly to an affiliate landing page since you can't capture the visitors email address that way. So then my question is, where do you send him first? Do you create your own landing page first so then it would be a 2 step process for him? What's the best way to get their email before sending them on their way?

If you're looking to collect emails, try build a landing page with an email opt in form.

You can actually create a page where you have an opt in box and some products that you reviewed.

You can have a page where you ONLY collect emails and names of prospects.

Test both to see what works BEST for you.

What autoresponder service are you using? They give you an option to redirect the buyer to the sales page once they submitted their email.
Yes a great way is to send them to your own landing page and capture their email, then redirect them to the offer. This will put the affiliate cookie in their computer and you also have their email.

      Hi OmarR,
we're halfway creating a landing page to capture email, then when user click 'Submit' button it will redirect them to an affiliate offer

do you know which AR can do it?

You ought to be able to do that with any autoresponder, surely?

Please excuse the observation that it's not something I'd want to do, myself - for two reasons ...

        1. There's quite a lot of misguided thinking about, on this subject. It's worth bearing in mind that it's possible to make the occasional quick sale that way and still lose a lot of money overall. Here's the key concept: the few people who will buy anything, that way, are all people who would have bought it in a week's time anyway, after receiving some email from you, so there's no real gain. But many other people, who would otherwise have bought it a week or two later, will be alienated by it, because of course it makes you look like "just another marketer", so if you do that, expect a much lower open-rate for your emails than if you don't do it. It can make an enormous difference (at the very least, this is something you should carefully split-test for yourself, rather than just "deciding to do it").

        2. Also, for myself, I need the thank you page, in order to give clear instructions, both in words and in pictures, on what subscribers (two groups: "gmail users" and "others") need to do, in order to receive my emails in their in-boxes. Again, without doing this, my open-rates are significantly lower - and I certainly don't want anything else distracting from that, because it's what the bulk of my future income depends on, and future income is the whole point of building the list in the first place?

        .

That is still one of my favorite posts about the topic. Many of the suggestions are even more important/useful now than they were two years ago.

P.S. I finally have an opportunity to also say "welcome back" Lexy, you were missed.

I wouldn't drive traffic to an affiliate's squeeze page unless your getting paid per lead (in which case I wouldn't put another squeeze page in front of that one...)

Of course if you're driving the traffic directly to the sales page, all you have to do is:

    1. Look at the sales page you're promoting, copying down key phrases and benefits that stand out to you and catch your attention.
    2. Reword those phrases and benefits into your own words and use them as the headline and sub-headline on your own squeeze page (here's a great tool for that: Free Headline Generator. (not an affiliate link)
    3. In your autoresponder, set up your confirmation page and thank you pages as the sales page of the offer you're promoting.
    4. Configure your autoresponder to send 3-7 messages promoting the offer you're promoting
    5. Start sending traffic to your squeeze page

Basically you just want to make sure your squeeze page matches the offer that you're promoting - don't send someone to a squeeze page talking about SEO then when they optin take them to a sales page about kittens. (A stretch, I know, but you get the point). More to the point, don't say something on your squeeze page like "make a gajillion dollars in the next 30 minutes", then the sales page says "make a bazillion dollars in the next 45 minutes". Also, the better you can match your squeeze page to font, color scheme, etc of the sales page the more trust your subscribers will have when they reach that sales page.

    Bam. Done and done.

***Bonus round: put a pay per lead program as an exit pop up to still make a couple bucks off the traffic you're getting that doesn't optin to your list. Better yet, why not put another one of your squeeze pages as the exit pop up that goes to a different affiliate offer in a different sub-niche? If they didn't like a social media product for example, maybe they'll like a list building product...

Collect a lead. Send to squeeze page then start promoting after that.

Create your own landing first then send to sales page. You can use parts of the main headline in the affiliate program sales page to create your landing page. That way your subscribers have a bit of a idea what they are opting into which can lead to higher conversion rates.
