How will I Earn with my Blog?

Just a quick question, how will I earn with my blog? Here's my blog: kaibril.com. It's all about my reviews on foods and restaurants specifically those that serve desserts. I really need your ideas about it.

You want to have an opt in form so that you can follow up with your subscribers.

You also want to add some affiliate programs in your niche too on your home page.

What are those affiliate programs you think I can use? About that subscriber, I did that "Enter your email address to subscribe" but still gained zero followers. What do you think is missing?

You need to offer readers something free to subscribe. Since your blog is about food, do a recipe ebook or something. It has to be useful. You can use MailChimp..it's a free autoresponder. Set it up and it will redirect your subs to your download link for your free item.

There are tons of ways to monetize a blog. Just Google "monetize my blog".

Use social media to funnel traffic into your blog. Offer useful information and link to your blog.

Those are strong points you have there. I will take that into consideration. I'm really not that great in terms of cooking. I don't know how to create that recipe book. I just love eating, maybe criticizing foods, etc.

Nice blog, Kai. And a good niche, too, I think.

First and foremost, Tal's 100% right: you need to build a list effectively. Very few people will "opt in" just for notifications of updates, so you're not realistically building your subscriber-list at the moment, and probably losing most of the traffic (which is a shame, with a nice site like this!).

Even just offering some kind of "free PDF report" on something dessert-oriented in exchange for people's email addresses would be a lot better. You could do that with one fixed-position/featured post at the top of the home page, next to the opt-in box in the sidebar.

If you look at ClickBank's Marketplace, you'll see there are several products there, across a wide price-range, appropriate for the kind of list you could generate from this blog. They pay commissions of up to 75%. I wouldn't try too hard to sell them from the blog itself, though, because (a) you won't sell many that way, compared with how many you can sell by email, and (b) it will make the site look a little bit too salesy if you do too much of it, and that would be a great shame. It's really surprising how much steady income you can make from a blog like this, in a niche like this, if you build a good emailing list and send good emails.

      Good luck!

Good point here. There are lots of sites that offer this. Free ebooks that you can share with your list. You don't have to personally create your free item.

I once read about a fellow who made a TON of money with a recipe book. He set up a Facebook page and built up followers and built it up. Then when he had a good amount (has to be real people...organically built by posting helpful stuff) of followers, he asked his FB page what their favorite recipes were. They responded, he compiled it all in a book, and made bank. The key was his niche....it was marijuana, and the recipe book was for edibles made with cannabis.

This is doable though with food. Everyone wants good recipes for things. The easier to make, the better. Do a specialty one for desserts only. Use your head..try things.

Your blog made me hungry! Yum!

I just noticed that your blog posts are reviews of bakeshops, cafes, etc., which are mostly located in Iloilo. I'm thinking that your target audience are mainly Ilonggos (people who live in Iloilo) who love to eat. The content would appeal to such an audience and to foodies who travel around the Philippines. However, the content wouldn't matter a lot to people outside Iloilo, especially those outside the country. With such a limited audience, your blog will have very little traffic, so Adsense wouldn't be a good option to monetize your blog.

I also see that you're also selling some advertising space. Restaurant owners in Iloilo might be interested in buying a spot, but you'll have to convince them that their target customers are reading your blog. Your blog has to be popular among Ilonggos or foodies who might visit Iloilo one of these days. If I were a restaurant owner in Iloilo, I'd want to see that you have hundreds, if not thousands, of blog readers before I pay for an advertising space on your blog.

Well, let me cut to the chase and offer some suggestions:

    1) Clearly define your goals.

    - How much do you want to earn per month?
    - How do you intend to earn that amount of money using your blog?

There are a number of ways to earn from your blog. You could use it as a portfolio item if you're going to offer writing services, especially if you want to write reviews for clients.

You can sell advertising space, like you're doing now. But do you think you'd hit your monthly income target that way? How many restaurant owners would be willing to pay for an advertising space on your blog at the price you want?

You can post Adsense ads and drive traffic to your blog, but like I said, if you have a limited audience, that wouldn't be a good idea. You'd have to reach out to a broader audience and offer content that's relevant to them.

You can sell affiliate products and earn commission. However, the products have to be related to the content of your blog. You also need to establish trust and position yourself as an expert in your niche before you can sell to your audience. People buy from sellers they trust. To gain your readers' trust, you'd have to show them that you really care about them. You must offer content that's useful and relevant to them. You can offer tips, how-to's, video tutorials, etc.

    2) You need to determine your target audience. Considering how you want to monetize your blog, what type of readers would help you hit your monthly income target? Let's say you want to sell cookware on your blog. Who are going to buy those? Perhaps chefs? Maybe housewives? Cooking enthusiasts?

    3) Then you have to determine what type of content your target audience would be interested in. What type of content would be useful and relevant to your audience? You can also try to find out what questions they usually ask and then answer those questions on your blog. If your blog content resonates with your intended audience, you'd be well on your way to achieving your monthly income goal.

I hope you find my suggestions helpful. Best of luck!

By the way, I lived in Iloilo for three years. I graduated high school from Assumption-Iloilo and I'm a big fan of JD Bakery.

Before you start thinking about earning, focus on building your traffic. Engaging your traffic and creating a community. This is the hard part, after that, earning is easy. When you have lots of traffic your website will be very valuable. People will sign up to your lists, pay for advertising, and people will buy affiliate products that you recommend. Check out clickbank for affiliate offers. Make sure to put an opt in box after every single post.

how will I earn with my blog?
I'm not going to be very popular here, but this is something that is typically decided before you actually start into a niche.

Originally Posted by kaibril View Post

I read one of your reviews and it was just BLAH to me.

I feel I can toss this criticism out to you because I am a certified FOODIE. I don't say this to brag, but it is something that I have a higher passion for than most. I'm not afraid to try new things and I'm constantly comparing those flavors to past flavors I've had elsewhere. I found that because of where I live I have no choice but to try to replicate some of those flavors as I'm on a small island.

If you are going to be the person who does "reviews from cakes to candies to any form of tasty sweets and desserts everywhere, mostly in Iloilo then you need to get a bit more in depth with it - and that means going as far as asking exactly what is in these things you are eating and being better able to describe those flavors.

"About this Heavenly Blue Lemonade of Heavenly Cafe and Pastries (located at Ground Level, GT Plaza Mall, MH Del Pilar Street, Molo, Iloilo City), it was refreshing. Being included as one of the cafe's signature drinks, I decided that I must try this one. It looks interesting. I loved every sip of it (feels like heaven). It has this authentic and unexplained flavor. This lemonade costs 45php only (price may change).

      Why is it blue?
What do you mean by it feels like heaven?
Does anyone else make anything similar?
Other than lemon, what are you tasting?
Is it really sweet or does it have a tart factor?
What would you pair it with (to eat)?
How does this businesses prices compare with others?

"authentic and unexplained flavor" tells me nothing really. Any tropical hints? Just blueberries? Fresh or frozen fruits used? Is this organic?

I could keep going but I think you get the picture.

"I'm really impressed with their caramel cheesecake. It looks simple but tastes incredible. The caramel on top is overpowering (which is a great thing). The cheesecake also is really soft and delicious. It costs 85php per slice."

Again, this really does not go into the complexities of what you could do to really sell that thing.

I do see you've put some time and what I'd consider "mechanical" work into the blog. But if you are going to talk about food you really need to dig in a little deeper.

I want to have my mouth watering from your reviews.

Do that and you will get those local business owners very interested in advertising on your site.

I suggest you use an opt in form so that you can get subscribers. You can offer them an incentive such as a free cookbook. Also, get some ads in there such as Adsense. That could help you make a couple of dollars now and again. Also, the advertisements are too cheap, I mean $1 for an ad? Most advertisers would ignore this because they think you don't have high quality traffic or even a decent amount of them. Try offering them at a higher price but in bulk.

First, Do you have much traffic came to your website. if so you can make a huge passive income from your website.
