What would you do?
I'm setting up a really great site at the moment, in a niche that is literally so desperate, the people will try anything which claims can give them results. I was amazed at the real hard time these people are having, and I had to admit the empathetic side of me is definitely tuning in.
I have spent two days researching keywords and products, looking around groups and forums and generally doing as much investigation on my potential visitors as possible -building some hardcore demographic. It's been quite enjoyable because I have learned so much, and it's made me feel very positive regarding the future of my efforts, as I'm quite sure I'm going to make some good profit.
However, whilst looking for products, I managed to draw up a potential shortlist of remedies for this certain situation. Many of them have great web pages and good affiliate programs. So I decided to read what past users and current users of these products were saying (I recommend everyone do this before promoting anything). So I spent a few hours searching forums on the topics for threads around these items.
Basically there are 2 products which I know yield extremely good results, and most of the people who are using them are doing so after trying every thing else, having exhausted most options and taking many wrong turns. Many of these people lose hope in the process. However the payout is 20% plus $3 and the items are $50 a pop. The cookie period is 20 days, and these items will need to be bought monthly for a period of upto 2 years. I began to think I would be missing out.
On the other hand I have another 2 products, which, when I researched them, found some mixed emotions. These writings were from active participants in my targeted market place. Basically, some people claimed it worked, whilst others, claimed it did not. There were a lot of complaints regarding the main part of the product, stating it could be obtained elsewhere at a greatly reduced price. But they did not know this until after much time and research later on. - But these items have a very good affiliate program. They pay 50% with lifetime commissions. I must admit i was stuck about which ones to choose, mainly because of my good nature conflicting with my greed.
It took me quite a while to figure out what to do. One common theme, like i said during my research was my target visitors had spent a lot of time buying products which gave mediocre results, if any. A lot of these people found the best products though chatting on forums with savvy product veterans. Basically, this is my window. Although I may feel like im missing out on some commissions, The relationship i can build with my prospect and the trust i can gain from them will be commendable, and Im sure this will grow the websites reputation.
The trick is to use all of this information In my presell pages before I send them to the merchant. Im sure by revealing the truth, which would initially take them a long time to find out, a lot of disapointment, and dollars wasted will help them reach a buying decision. As long as I pitch it right.
I'm pretty embarrassed with myself for actually having to think about it.
It just goes to show how valuable time spent researching is. Had I never done this, I feel i could have wasted a really good opportunity.
So what would you do....considering people will still buy these inferior products in droves? Would you put money over ethic?

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.
You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!
