Advice on domain names

I have thought about branding and wondered whether it is best to have a domain that is personally branded, then add sub-domains to that to link to a range of products?

So say I had joebloggsideas.com as the main site, which could then allow me to have sub-domains/pages of clevermarketingservices, cleverplrservices, clevercoachingservices etc. Or would it be better to buy separate domains for clevermarketingservices or cleverplrservices and make the logo/brand work around the word 'clever', to expand it to things like cleverbloggingservices etc?

Well, the answer is...test. But what I've found is sometimes a sub-domain works well when it is in the same family, and different domains if "cousins".

Example. Headlight Cleaning and Auto Detailing are in Same Family.

So, start by identifying your customer and what else they might be interested in.

PS. The loop is when different sites have similar content, so more likely to be found by search engines, and of course, there's the whole back links thing too. Set up a loop of websites/blogs with their own domains, and then within each, use sub domains for your specific products.

    Couple of concepts:

Start with a domain name containing good keywords. Then add more "secondary" domain names that you "park" on your shared web hosting server which "point to" your main domain.

These secondary domains can use other keywords. You can buy versions with hyphens separating the words into those found in a dictionary, such that search engines can easily parse the keywords.

Such "SEO inside domain names" is not a huge help by itself, but every little bit adds together synergistically in Online Marketing.
