What's Your Experience Promoting Physical Products?

Hey warriors,

I have been promoting digital products ever since I started online marketing.

I am thinking about promoting some physical products but I would love to have your take on it.

Do you find that it is easier to promote physical products and which affiliate network do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for you time!

I haven't made a ton of sales with physical products but I have sold some. Commission on average is about 4% but I usually target product above £100 to get the most commission. I can't say whether it's easier cause I've never promoted digital products (I think I should). Most affiliate networks are the same but I'm using Buy.at and tradedoubler, affiliatefuture.

    Good luck

PS I enjoyed your clickbank secrets! BTW Why the interest in physical products ? Diversify I guess ?

I wouldn't say it's easier (again it depends on the product and the 'desperation' of your niche) but I like Health and Beauty Affiliate Programs by MarketHealth.com - decent commissions and many of their products convert quite well.

I'm also promoting Health and Beauty Affiliate Programs by MarketHealth.com and several adult physical products, and banking $100/day in several of these programs. Each.

The key is to look for programs where you don't do the fulfillment -- thats the kiss of death, and would enslave you like ebay. Let the vendors do the fulfillment, you do the traffic generation and presell. It works.

Whenever you promote a physical product, make sure you're not responsible for delivering the product - time waster. It is much easier to promote digital products online because you can have instant access to millions of people and work on your own time.

      Thanks for the info.

I was just wondering If I could find products that sells for say $1000+ hoping that they pay a high commission.

Hey thanks for the comment on my report. Glad you liked it.

Also I think you are missing out a lot by not promoting digital products.

Expensive 42" TV, amplifiers, hardcore guitars are to name a few. I do plan to go into the digital product but I have about 3-4 domains that I have to finish off, about 2 weeks each. Made the mistake of buying 3 domains at once.

I have been marketing physical products for the last nine years online. I find it much easier to market and sell physical products online because most people understand what a physical product is.

Unlike a downloadable product, many people outside the the IM niche still don't fully understand the value or the quality of the an electronic product.

If you do decide to venture into the physical marketplace, make sure to get involved with a DS or fulfillment house.

We do have our own fulfillment center and ship not only for our company but for a number of our dropshippers and private label customers. For many, the fulfillment is the big stumbling block for selling physical products, but once you do it for a while it offers a lot of benefits and advantage you can't find in the soley 100% downloadable business model.

You're kidding right? Outside of text, video and audio nothing can be sold digitally. Theres a whole big world out there. Most people actually prefer to shop for physical products,

  • I had a nightmarish experience with an online store. Once the orders started pouring in, I couldn't keep up. If someone else is handling the shipping and logistics, I think it could be really good, but you give up a lot of your margin.

After marketing opportunities for 3 years we're now launching our very first physical product. We're very excited and know it will be a success. Of course, we have a great, responsive list, great affiliates, and most important, our product is top of the line.

Physical products are great because the perceived value is much higher than digital products, thus you can charge more and make more money per sale.

I've been doing quite well I think. 2 main sites have generated $606.55 in the space of 3 months. I've got plenty of other physical products to promote but just gotta get this 1 project out the way before I scale up.

I'm also a fan of promoting physical products. I do it with tangible affiliate products though, because I don't want the hassle of shipping/fulfillment/stock/returns/etc that comes with having your own physical products.

As someone else said above: General consumers understand physical products. They don't really know much about digital yet and too many of those that do tend to think digital is stuff you download for free.

Ordering an area rug or greenhouse online however, means something will be delivered to your door thus they know it has to be paid for first.

My favorite affiliate network is Share A Sale because they're pro affiliate - in other words they don't allow some of the sales stealing tactics that have been seen in other networks over the years.

I also promote a few things from Commission Junction and I'm a fan of Market Health (mentioned above) too. Great commissions, 2 week payouts and good conversions most of the time too.

    Hey Casey,

All of my success has been promoting physical products. I got your guide to get better at Clickbank lol

I really like physical products because you don't have to sell as much in your copy.

For example, if someone is searching for a Pioneer 6020FD HDTV, well, they pretty much made up their mind that is what they want...and they just want a good price and decent merchant

The nice thing about physical products is that you have the holiday season where there is crazy money to be made. So if you are promoting a TV, you might get sales for PS3's etc if you are using Amazon

I actually had that happen to me this month...I was marketing an LCD TV, and I also got some purchases for stereo receivers, PS3's, Nintendo Wii's etc....and I got credit for the sale

Also, **** Berry supplements and other diet supplements have treated me wel

So yeah, I really like physical products

Let me know if I can help

    -Mark

Physical products have such low commissions that I never thought about promoting them. Instead I would recommend doing more work and making a sale of a digital product because you get a higher commission.

When I promote physical products my conversion is always above 5%, but when only digital it's much less.

Think it says a lot about what I should start to concentrate more on, but I like playing on the promote physical product and add in the digital product that will give them thier fantasy.

      Physical product: Weight Bench
      Fantasy: Get Muscular
Digital Product for Fantasy: Some ClickBank massive promise product.

Best of both worlds that way and since I've started doing this, I see where I have more opportunity, but still not getting conversions at CB, it sucks but I'll still not leave the fantasy item out no matter what my site is.

This was my new key philosophy to promoting products.

Promote physical products - add the fantasy items.

Regardless of the website or niche.

Right on. Add the "want element" and sell more that way. I suspect you are in fact increasing your conversions on the physical product. If you're not selling CB "want element" products, well, that leaves something you can improve

I find the physical converts like crazy, the fantasy items not so much (I think it's the salespages), but it's always good to provide both no matter what the niche is.

This is actually a common mistake many beginners make. Higher % does not always = Higher $

50% sound a heck of a lot better than 10% but most of my 10% commissions = $80-$100 and much more, where as 50% tends to be more along the lines of $20-$30.

  • selling physical products is an entirely different beast. i have found that selling digital products is the easiest and quickest way to make a great income. the only form of physical product i would recommend is doing some CPA marketing.

Wow. this is a great discussion. My oldest site is a niche that promote physical products. Still sells to this day. Right now I am doing some SEO works (outsourced of course) to crank up sales. Made $17.74 this month

But I am more into digital products these days... I build affiliate sites on the side when I don't have other things to do. But I must say that I am running out of touch. Some of the discussion here is to target for really long-tail keywords. I think that would work like brand-model thingy...

I have some domains that are undeveloped and thinking of going into the Health Market. Really looking into HealthBuy.

By the way, great discussion here. Hope you guys share more info on how to sell (as affiliate) physical products.
