Ad copy where and who?

Hi Warriors,
Normally I do all of my own ad copy however with new products in the works I have been finding less and less time to work on ad copy for my pages. I was wondering if any of you could recommend someone or point me to a site you have used to find someone who can write a great ad copy for a site or sites of mine?

From what I hear you can expect to pay around $500 for someone to write up a good ad copy for a site have you found this to be true?

Thanks Warriors!

    Hey Sean,

It depends on what you "expect" for $500. Sales copy is an investment, it will make you money. So it makes sense to pay as much as you possibly can afford to get the best copywriter.

People spend $2,000 on a Television which makes them no money, but then complain that a copywriter costs money.

Ok... now onto your question. $500 will probably get you a beginner copywriter, but if you want the really awesome guys you need to be paying a few thousand more.

However if $500 is all you have then pay it and constantly improve the letter with some testing and tweaking yourself.

I believe Brian Keith Voiles is over $75,000 a letter - so that gives you some idea of what top of the line is

I'll sometimes write copy for markets with which I'm very familiar
for less than my regular fees. You can get a person who claims
to have skill at writing copy for very cheaply - what you are
unlikely to get very cheaply is somebody who is any good at it.

$500 is not a good starting budget for copywriting for a project
that "matters" to you (as in you have worked hard on it and
you want to make a lot of money selling your product).

"You pay peanuts, you get monkeys"... as they say.

I don't say this to be arrogant. I take the trade and craft of
it very seriously, as do others... treating it as a profession
worthy of deep study and practice. $500 for a sales letter
is not gonna get people who actually know how to do this
stuff eager to work for you, though you might get lucky
    here and there.

      Hey Sean,

Loren nailed it, as he often does.

Copy is an investment in your business. Pay the
right price, hire the right guy, and it can make
      you millions.

Don't pay enough, or hire the wrong guy, and it
will actually cost you money long term. Because
you'll have to hire someone else to re-write it...
then maybe another guy to tweak it, and so on...

Chances are, someone who writes your copy for
$500 isn't going to know what it takes to write
a letter that converts well. So the letter will
probably need work... and then a re-write etc.

If $500 is your budget, that's your budget. Every
body has income constraints. Just make sure
that the guys you talk to have written in your
niche, and they've got some solid conversions
      in the past...

And if you can't find people like that, you'll see
why good writers charge in the thousands... and
stay booked up for months on end.

      Good luck.

    Sean.

Like I said it's probably best if you go out and either increase your budget somehow or hire a cheap beginner writer (The WSO board or Elance would be the only ones THAT cheap) and test and tweak until it converts.

But most people have no problem getting together a few thousand for an expensive plasma TV, Holiday etc - but then won't invest money in their business.

    Hi Sean,

You might want to post this in the copywriting forum here at the WF. There are some amazing copywriters there. I'm sure they could help you or point you in the right direction.

    I hope this helps
