Really Need Direction On My Video Course

Hi guys,

I've had some fantastic help from some Warriors so far on this project i'm building and am reaching out again.. i will try and be brief

I am an expert in a particular field with a big interest from wealthy motivated buyers (good start!)

I started writing an ebook which has now turned into a book over 40,000 words in length.
I then realized I needed video examples, and now have 3 hours of video footage demonstrating how to do what I am teaching.

I then thought people arent going to read 40,000 words of reasonably technical info off a screen. Audio/visual is so much better so plan to record each of the chapters of my book as a lecture with powerpoint etc as well.

I have been talking to web developers about getting this thing actually out there on the web hoping they would be able to take my baby and run with it. But I am pulling my hair out. I thought these people were meant to be creative, but they need their hand held at every single stage, they cant seem to come up with an idea of their own. Things like "can you make my videos look a bit more professional" and they stare at me blank faced and ask me exactly what wants to be changed and changed to exactly what.

My idea is i will have a professional looking homepage where i will give away the introductory chapters and lectures for free (as per the standard IM model) and then charge my ticket price (which is around $200 which is competitively priced for this niche) for all the juicy stuff with video examples and access to a forum where i will give on going support. I intend to show this all in a members area rather than emailing out videos to people. Id rather keep it all "onsite". Looks more professional too.

How does that sound for a plan? Any suggestions with regards to ANYTHING will be appreciated. I am lost on things like Do i still sell the ebook as a pdf? If so do I email it to people? Will they read a book that long online? How much of this could I build on Shopify myself? Because the quotes i'm getting are astronomical considering i have produced all this already they just need to make it look pretty and work, we're talking low 5 figure quotes! A simple membership site with videos uploaded shouldn't cost that much should it?

Does anyone have any example sites of successful digital courses or video courses? I would appreciate it

Thank you all so much, i feel like im going around in circles right now

Interesting you both mentioned Wordpress. A very helpful person I met on here also suggested Wordpress over Shopify. Maybe that is the way to go. If I built the site up to a point would a web developer be comfortable with working with a Wordpress site? A lot of them look quite amateurish I thought.

Thank you very much for the Skype invite Selfmade. I will add you tomorrow if that's ok.

I will have a play around on Wordpress tomorrow thank you.

Is it possible to embed videos and text and all that into a Wordpress site and make it look unique and professional? I just found all word press sites to look like a blog. Which are great. But if my customers are paying a decent amount i want it to look great!

Also do you have any critique on my approach/strategy?

    Many thanks

Yes you can embed videos, articles, pictures in wordpress, there are many plugins as well that you can utilize for your business. You can get a nice template for it and make it look better than just a "Wordpress Blog" But if your product quality is GOOD and there is GREAT VALUE offered than I wouldnt mind if I had to access it from wordpress. You can also use SEO with wordpress blogs

I would do wordpress and Digital Access Pass over wishlist, I think it is just much more powerful. Your best bet is to edit it yourself. If you want the course I used to learn how to do killer video editing, just PM me.

You can also use Drupal to run it as well, just has a longer learning curve but I think is a more powerful than wordpress (its what many government sites run on).

So if I was you, here is what I would do to get it started.

Build a site with wordpress and Optimize Press 2. Get it on good quality hosting, not cheap hostgator, blue host or go daddy hosting. ~$99 and ~$20/month for hosting

      Install Digital Access Pass ~$130

Buy Vimeo pro and upload all your videos to it as they are edited. Set them to private and when you are ready to embed, you can set it to stream to your domain only. Plus it works great in iPads as well. ~$199

PayPal or Stripe - Digital Access Pass sports both and they actually have a shopping cart module for it. Of you can use something like Clickbank which also integrates with DAP and actually now does auto log in as well.

Sign up for an email marketing platform, whether it be aweber, get response or ontraport and integrate it in so you can keep marketing to them.

In this scenario you will have an extremely robust membership solution, your stuff will have less chance of being pirated and it will look professional as hell. I know many will disagree with me but I have seen more sites built with wish list that are pirated. I seldom see that with courses on DAP.

There is more to it than this but I think its a great start.

Thanks OnlineStoreHelp. That's a really good outline I can work with. Just what I was looking for.

On another note, I assume Wordpress themes are pretty easy to manipulate. Like adding some moving text if I want key bullet points to sweep across a banner or something? Hope that isn't too much of a complex question but I imagine it's a pretty basic piece of graphic manipulation?

Optimize Press 2 is a theme that allows you to manipulate the look and feel of your pages. It is a theme designed for actual courses (why many of us recommend it) Optimize Press 1 is also great but is not mobile responsive. What many of us are doing is actually doing sales videos on the home page since they seem to convert really well when done right. OP has instructional videos as well.

Don't be afraid to do a sales video for the home page, It will take you a bit but it gets people comfortable with you as a person, engages them more and there are some really cool things you can do with it.

Any further questions just let me know.

Online Sales Help thats a fantastic post.

I'm looking to start a membership site which will be drip feeding videos daily and including:
    - Weekly Webinars
    - Forum
    - Live Site Chat
    - Direct Messaging 'Teachers' (people who make the videos) System

I'm thinking of combining Member Mouse (management of accounts), Wordpress + Custom Theme + Clickbank (Payment + Affiliates) + aWeber as a solution.

How do you think that would go?

    Hey Tommy

You are right, keeping everything on the site is the way to go to keep people engaged and coming back.
First, you need a simple plugin for membership like wishlist or digital access pass.(DAP) I personally use DAP.

From there you need to upload the Ebook on your website and not email it to keep people engaged on your site.

Split the content of your ebook in different modules and put them on different pages of your site so it is more digestable and easy to naviguate for your memebers

For your video, dont upload them on your site, it will slow it down. Open an account with amazon s3 (its free) and Upload them there. Amazon wont charge you until you reach a certain amount of download(views) per month.

Dap has the plugin to sync everything with S3 amazon with their monthly subcription.

You can install it yourself it is fairly simple or you can open a ticket with their live support and they will do it all for you.

I've been burnt by other memebership plugin so thats why i really dont have a problem backing up DAP. Someone else mention wishlist and it seems like a decent plugin as well cuz i see it mention on other threads but i havent tryed it and I know DAP will do exactly what you need.
There's a full review here if you want to have a look: http://www.alexfortin.com/digital-ac...view-tutorial/

Let me know if you have any questions
