Affiliate Marketing/Tracking Question from a Product Seller

Hey Warriors!
As you can tell, I'm new here and new to selling digital products. After months of research, I'm starting to realize how much I DON'T know!

I've developed a great info product for small business owners (brick and mortar - not online businesses). I have the program, the site/platform, and everything just about ready to go. Now I just need to get it to people. I have to bootstrap my launch, due to limited resources. I'm planning to dabble in CPC, but I think affiliates are the way to go because: A. I only pay if they sell; B. they should have discernible audiences, which makes them more effective than CPC.

Question 1: Contacting Affiliates
I plan to contact potential affiliates directly via email or their own web forms, give them a sample of my product, invite them to review it, and then invite them to be my affiliates in exchange for a percentage of each sale. Does anyone have any thoughts on the most effective way to do that? Or is it just as simple as doing a Google search for bloggers and sending emails?

Question 2: Tracking Affiliate Sales
It's really important to me that affiliates get paid for EVERY sale they generate. I'm not sure how to track this stuff. I'd really rather not buy a service for that yet, as resources are really tight, so I've been thinking about assigning coupon codes to my affiliates. Is that an accepted way of tracking affiliate sales?

Question 3: Effect of Free Trial on Affiliate Sales Tracking 01
I have an initial free trial, after which customers are prompted to buy. I feel like this derails the coupon code method for my affiliates, as their referred customers won't have the coupon code directly in front of them when the free trial ends, and when they're prompted to pay. In other words, they don't buy immediately when they come over through the affiliate, but they first pass through a free trial. Does this present a real problem, or is it enough for my affiliates to say "keep this code for when you buy?"
Again, I really want affiliates to get every penny they earn. After all, that motivates them to sell more, and it's just the right way to do business, regardless. That said, I tend to over-engineer things.

Question 4: Affiliate Sales Tracking 02
With this setup, what's the best way to track actual purchases back to the affiliates who send the buyers to me? I know it's possible to track the number of free trial sign ups they send me pretty easily with API (though I'm not sure how to implement it yet). But I'm not sure how to then track the individuals who later pay back to their specific referring affiliates, so that the affiliates can be paid.

Question 5: How do I thank you on WarriorForum?
How do I thank you for your answers on WarriorForum? Last time I posted, I couldn't figure that out.

Thank you so much for your help! And if anyone here serves my target audience and would like to be an affiliate, please let me know. I think you'll be really pleased with the program I've put together.

Hmmm... interesting situation, and well done for getting to this point.

Q1 - Depending on your niche and what your promoting you could (as well as a google search) search on sites like Clickbank for related products and try to contact the vendors if you find any related products.

Q2 - In my view, it makes complete sense to run a genuine Affiliate programme. It may be hard, but if you dont have confidence in your product(s) to generate enough income to pay for basic essentials then recruiting Affiliates may be harder than you imagine. You will also not want to spend time and energy manually maintaining, checking and dealing with 'issues' from Affiliates.

However, if your site is a WordPress or other popular CMS you may well find a plugin or module to add to your site to handle this for you - possibly also without incurring any great expense!

Q3 - Eliminate this problem and have things set up right from the start. It will most likely pay dividends for you later.

Q4 - Don't go there.. make it easy for yourself.

Q5 - No need, but feel free to IM me if you wish, or need any more info.

Best of luck with your launch!

Hi Cliff! Thank you so much for the input! I'll definitely send you a PM with some follow-ups. Thank you for the offer!

I've been looking at ClickBank, and I have an account setup. I'll have to go ahead and proceed with that. I've heard it's a bit tough to affiliates onboard before you have a track record though. Do you have any tips regarding that issue?

I do want to clarify: it's not that I lack confidence in my product's ability to sell. It's more that the resources aren't currently available to market it through quick and dirty means, like CPC. Unfortunately, I the funds just aren't there right now and, due to the niche, I think the best keywords will be terribly costly. The product isn't something people directly search for (though it answers a common complaint/concern business owners have), but it sits alongside insurance and business enhancement products. I would best equate it to insurance. I see it as having a $500 price point at this time, though I'm obviously going to re-evaluate that as I add to it, and as the market responds.

PS: I found the Thank You button, so I'll be putting it to use from now on!
As for time and energy, I don't really mind starting out with things that don't scale. I'll do whatever it takes to get this thing out there, in terms of work. Of course, I'd like to scale it once it's succeeding. In that regard, you express the same concerns about coupon codes that I have. As you said, I'd much rather have it all setup the best way from the outset. Thank you for suggesting the plugin! Good idea! I think I've located one that might work. I'll have to tinker with it a bit.

        Thank you for the input!

If anyone else has any thoughts, I would truly be grateful! This is quite an adventure, and it's nice to have input from folks who've been there before.

      Hi Abhi!

Thank you! That's definitely a good suggestion - seeking input from business owners directly. I do have a fanpage on several social media sites, but I haven't started promoting any of them yet. Do you recommend simply promoting through ads on that medium, or are there other, better methods? I'm bootstrapping at the moment, but I hear Facebook ads are very inexpensive.

My market is basically businesses with a brick and mortar presence. Any business that operates in the physical realm fits, including businesses where customers visit, businesses with offices, etc. However, my program doesn't apply to businesses that are based entirely online, with no physical presence, or businesses that work entirely through telecommuting.

I'm sending you a PM with a link to my site. I hope that this is acceptable. I'd love any additional feedback you may have to offer!

Thank you for your reply and thoughts! I'm really grateful for your help!
