I am wondering whether it would be more beneficial to market sites on general forums or on the various social networks that are out there? Which do you think would be a more productive avenue?

Anytime you can make direct connections with potential buyers, do it. Getting your product or link in front of their eyes is the first step to making a sale. Forums have been great for me. I haven't done as much on social networks, but I hear they can work well too.

Why not both? really, I think forums were the original "social networks" |

I agree, if you can, both get my vote.. You're effectively doing the same sort of things with each.. What are you doing on Social networks? You are trying to get exposure, build a fan base, connect with and network with those that follow what you do.. ..seek JVs, look for creative ways to promote your biz sending those fans to your offers.. All the same things we've always done in forums. ![]() Having said that, depends on the niche how easy it'll be to market using forums.. social marketing is easier to pull off in some markets; forums can be a lot stricter and inflexible in terms of driving traffic and promoting yourself.. |

Just google your niche keyword, along with "forum" then "message board" then "bulletin board." If you want to get really fancy, you can go for the "Powered by..." message for the different forum softwares. |

You should do both. A lot of social bookmarking/networking can be automated while forum marketing shouldn't be for best results.
