Hey Everyone,

Dave had his Gmail account hacked.

In turn our Business Paypal information was accessed.

So far 30 transactions.

Including deleting all our subscriptions to Membershiips from WSO's on the WF,

Comlpetely wiped out all of our monies from our Business account

I am sick, think I am going to throw up.

How long does it take to get everything restored

How do we get our memberships back

Geez, I know there is more but am just frazzeled

    Hi Tina,

I wish I could offer some practical help, but don't know how to recover from something like this.

However, I can offer moral support. I'm sure some of our fellow Warriors will jump in ith top-notch advice.

Also, let me know if there is anything I can do to help you build everything back up.

Hang in there, and I hope the miserable S.O.B. that did this gets caught and gets punished to the fullest extent of the law.

      Hey Tina,

Knowing you and Dave like I do, I'm sure your taking the initial steps such as notifying Pay Pal, Your customers and so forth.

I think if you contact each of your memberships you are a member of and explain what has happened, they will restore your membership. When you contact them give them the transaction details of your last payment and perhaps they will restore it without you having to pay them again.

Don't forget to immediately change your passwords on all your c-panels, membership accounts, e-mail accounts, hosting accounts and if your doing on line personal banking, change all the passwords.

My heart goes out to you and Dave. Keep us posted on the steps you have taken and we can all learn together from your and Dave's situation. I stand with you.

        Thanks all,

        We contacted Paypal immediately.

They put up a restriction on the account immediately, and gave us back our funds, and ended all the fraudulent transactions.

I have contacted all our Memberships and am sure they can be restored.

I have to tell you I have never had a panic attack before, but I had one this a.m.

In addition to the Paypal account and Gmail, they changed all the nameservers on the websites we had Hosted on GoDaddy.

That issue is still not resolved and may take an army to get it done. As they require verification for all your personal info and a picture id.

        21 websites in all.

Including our new project -- Audio Video Articles.

So if you have signed up or used Clickbank as an Affiliate please remove all links until further notice.

Thanks again to everyone for their kind words and advice.

Not sure how they got the Paypal passwords, unless Dave had it stored in the Gmail account.

This is really bad timing as Dave is leaving on vacation tomorrow, and will gone about a week.

So I am sure, if anything else occurs I will be posting for "HELP"

One problem we can't access our cpanels to change the passwords etc

I have my password log in hand, as I keep a separate hard copy on my desk.

Changing everything that we can atm. As we are not really sure how much info was in the Gmail account.

Plus, as I have corresponded with Dave to a great length about Affiliate Programs and Memberships, I need to change all those passwords as well.

It is going to be a long day for sure.

Tina - I am so sorry!

Regarding PayPal -- I spent the $5 and got the PayPal Security Key, figuring that it adds another layer of protection. If you haven't done so already, it might be worth doing for the future.

You are in my thoughts! I hope that the damage turns out to be minimal.

My yahoo mail account was hacked 2 weeks ago. The scum *******s got hold of my dedicated server details and injected 36 sites with redirects and hidden cookies. Our sites dropped dramatically in rankings and so did our income.

It was an awful experience. I didn't go take a shot of whiskey. I drank a whole bottle.

Losing 21 active domains would be worse than anything! Without those domains you are starting from square one... lost backlinks, sales, etc.

You should be able to stop this if you act now. (I am sure you are.)

Also, here is what looks like a decent random password generator (Do due diligence to be sure the site is legit.):

Password generator to generate good, secure, random and easy to remember passwords.

Geez, this has me thinking I should update my passwords.

I always use different passwords for each financial business account versus regular account, but this is still disconcerting.

All it takes is giving what might seem like innocent access to your server for a script install or something and, if you are working with the wrong person, they all the sudden have your pass for multiple services. Is it possible that is what happened?

I understand you say the gmail account was hacked, but all it takes is one link for people to dig further... if they had the server password and knew the gmail address, then they could put 2 and 2 together and go form there. (Assuming the pass was the same or very similar.) I am just saying it could be something similar to that.

Good luck. Hope this works out as smoothly as possible for you.

Gmail is a "portal" into your digital life. So is any other email account. Something similar happened to my boss a few years ago. Someone hacked their AOL account and requested the transfer of a $7000/mth producing domain. Believe it or not, it was transferred and no one knew a thing (or could do anything about it.)

First things first, secure your Gmail account.
                        http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...w-protect.html

Secondly, check the status of all your domains. Most people that hack Gmail accounts want access to other things. These things can include Bank Accounts, Paypal accounts, Domains and more.

So make sure you check the status of your domains at GoDaddy. See if any requests to transfer your domain have been initiated. You may have to call to confirm.

Then, check all products, memberships and services that use Gmail as your main email account contact. That is, if they can log into MySpace and request a password reset by email, then check MySpace. Same goes for credit cards, memberships, anything.

A lot of damage could have been done. They could have reset many passwords and deleted their tracks.

Sorry to hear this happened. Please keep a watchful eye.

We changed the Gmail settings yesterday and have been in touch with GoDaddy as they took our domains, I sent the info off to them to deal with. Also PayPal sorted things out asap.

And thanks BlueSquares for the reminder. I've been putting off the gmail https option until I read this thread.

                          Hi Tina,

I know what you're going through, because the same thing happened with me. I think that I fell for a very convincing PayPal phishing scheme, and foolishly, I was using the same password for my gmail accounts as well.

PayPal initiated their investigation and I got all my money back. They were terrific - there was even a phone number to call, and I had a very positive experience with their phone support.

On the other hand, I have still not recovered my Gmail accounts. Gmail has virtually no support - well, there is a form that you can fill out when your account is 'compromised' - wherein all the questions are canned, they ask things like when was the account created (yeah, right) - who were some frequently emailed contacts (some of my gmail accounts were mostly incoming mail, but important nonetheless), what were some of the labels, was the account created as a result of an invitation and if so, the URL of the invitation, etc. There was no text field to explain the problem in my own words. Seemed like the whole process was done with bots, not with people.

And I got a robotic response back as well - a form e-letter that said I hadnt provided enough information to ensure that the account was mine. So they disabled the account 'to prevent further abuse', but haven't returned it to me - and actually, there were THREE gmail accounts hijacked, not one. The hijacker changed my password, my secondary email, and my security questions.

I've resubmitted a couple of more times and got zero response back.

I had all sorts of private info in my emails, unredeemed gift certificate to Amazon, file attachments that I hadn't yet saved to my hard drive, login info to membership sites, etc. So one thing I did was phone the credit bureaus who put a 90-day fraud alert on my credit cards.

So a few things to know about your gmail account:
                          > your secondary email address
                          > frequently emailed contacts
                          > labels you've created
                          > last date of successful login
                          > invitation info if applicable

                          Anyway, a tough lesson learned.

                          - Kat

Hi Tina, Dave and other Warriors . . .

I am so sorry that this stuff happens! But Tina, I am also thankful that you posted this to warn other Warriors about keeping their information secure.

Over the last couple months, I have been slammed by mostly Newbie Warrior because I won't share my very successful blog address. They accuse me of lying because I won't post it on the Warrior Forum.

This thread is the backup and proof for why I only share my information with a few trusted Warriors. Truly, giving away successful site information is like saying, "Oh, here . . . take my ATM card and here's the PIN, too!"

Again, I am so sorry this happened to you and all the hassle and stress it caused. I am really sorry there are people who actually can sit at their computers and literally steal from unsuspecting individuals and then still sleep at night!

But again, I am thankful for the great Warriors here who are men and women of character and know for sure that integrity and prosperity are armlocked! You can't have one without the other!

Blessings to you, Tina and Dave. I hope all is well now.

Gmail is a "portal" into your digital life. So is any other email account.
Could someone who understands that statement please expand on this a bit. Does it mean that accessing the email reveals any info sent by email about passwords, etc?

My confusion is how access to paypal is found through your email account. Is it that cracking the email account allows entry into the computer?

My own practice with new sites is that when I set up a hosting account for the site (info the hosting company sends to me by email after its done) I then immediately change the password to a very strong one - because a simple password change does not generate an email.

If this is an increasing problem, could it be avoided by companies displaying that verification info on a secure site page rather than by email? Or am I totally missing the point?

Tina - I would have been panicked! I'm impressed that Paypal responded as quickly as they did.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.
