I think it really depends on how you are marketing.

If you are using PPC, you probably want to make the path to the affiliate offer as direct as possible. And obstacle you put in the way will cause you to lose too much of your traffic. If you are depending on free traffic, I would try and capture as much of it as possible for follow up marketing.

As for the first part, if you are doing a review site you want to make it look like a review site, not a sales page. Let the affiliate sales page do the selling. Your objective is to get them more interested in learning about the products.

Landing pages set the table for your sales.

They can warmup and presell your prospects before you send them to a sales page.

They can also be used to build your lists.

Of course you landing page can be a review page.

The page should be designed to do one thing alone.

    Guess what?

You'll have to test to see what process makes the most money for you.

    Hope This Helps!!

So when building a landing page thats used to "pre-sell" potential buyers that found my page through my "adword ads" i should make the site simple, that briefly highlights the pros of the product, and send them directly to the actual product page. and use a seperate page for lead capture. that is because i dont want to waste my adwords clicks and money on losing buyers to email signups(which is a gamble because they might unsubscribe) is this correct?????

It depends upon what type of visitor you have attracted through your PPC activity.

Some campaigns will be focused upon hot purchasers who, by the search phrase they use, are showing that they want to buy. In this instance get the purchase button in front of them with a landing page which reinforces the benefits of this product and why they have made the right decision to buy it.

An alternative campaign might be built to attract people earlier in the decision cycle where you look to build their knowledge and sell through the 3rd, 4th 5th etc contact. To achieve this you would need to acquire the email address to deliver a report / newsletter.

Remember in all situations that Google will assess the quality of your landing page and a content poor site will count against you resulting in higher cpc.

Landing page is the page of which you drive traffic to. Therefore, there are many kinds of landing pages and therefore really depends on situation..

    • Squeeze page - the main purpose of this type of landing page is get people to opt in to your list and promote to them later. There's very little content normally, but some bulleted points offering freebies to get people to opt in.
    • Presell page - you'll tell a story, an interesting one to get people warm up and prepare to reach for their wallet for the next thing presented to them. Normally a long article with only a few links to the affiliate product.
    • Review page - Even review page has many types. It could be Conduit, short reviews of 10 products, 3 products (this is the most preferred) but it all depends of the type of affiliate products you're promoting.
    • Combination of 2 or all of the above - it really doesn't matter as long as it works. So, experiment to find out as different niche requires different approaches.

Some people even add Adsense to their landing page but again.. it all depends. So, test, analyze and tweak to find out.

Before I take the time to build a site around a set of products/niche, I test things out with a simple landing page.

I have the same problem, I am working on my first site, with a heath product actually 2 health products that do the same thing, one is all natural and one isn't, I cant decide if I want to do a presell page, or a review page, I kind of want to do the review/landing page mix if that makes any sense. I want to have a review but I also want to capture e-mail's for future selling of other products.

When in doubt and if you can generate visitors at will, go for the squeeze page and then you can send them to the review page or a comparison page.

    Build your lists.
