first site, please critique...

Hi all, please critique my first site I made: Gain Serious Muscle

Whether it negative or positive criticism, anything that will help me would be great!

The middle upper box is for an opt-in I will be getting soon. Also can anyone help me out with a sitemap? and I would like to delete the blog/ at the end of the url, but don't know how to do that in ftp?

And how is the text? readable? too small? Anything you like or don't like about it, please include. Thanks so much everyone!

    Hi,

    Nice, simple site.

I would recommend that you align left your subtitles under the 'Drop the lazy attitude and motivate yourself!' heading because it compliments your bullets above in the first section.

Good luck with it. You've chosen a VERY competitive niche!

Honestly, I don't say this much, but I think the design is VERY good. You have what you need now to move forward with your plans. One small thing I noticed is you need Meta Description and Meta Keyword Tags in your HTML.

      The site looks very good.
I guess it's not too important, but the pic of the dude on week1/week 12 banner looks like they are two different guys! Sometimes weightlifters face change a lot, but I think it doesn't help building credibility.
      Just my thoughts

thanks guys, yea those pictures don't look like the same people lol, but that's the best banner ad I could find from the affiliate product I'm promoting. I will leave it up for now and change it if I find a better one.

I agree, you've done a good job with it.

I was going to give you some links that would answer a couple of questions you asked, but I don't have fifteen posts. So instead, I'll tell you how to find the links. XD

Go to courtneytuttle.com and do a search for "XML sitemap". The first result is "11 Unescapable Steps To WordPress Synergy," which is a good read regardless. Number 8 & 9 on the list explain how to set up both XML and HTML sitemaps.

For info on moving Wordpress out of the /blog/ directory, Google "moving wordpress."

      Good luck!

    Site looks good.

The plugin I use is Google XML Sitemap for wordpress

You will need to move your site from .com/blog. The other option is just to leave it and do a redirect from the .com. Right now a Gator host page comes up which is not good.

    Keep truckin...

      Site looks very well

The headline at the top...just under it move the text over a bit to right and I would make bold and Bigger

I was thinking of something so I did a page for you and you may get ideas, this page is hidden on my website and not available.

        Hi Patrick,
Your before and after shots were even more convincing

As I am new to this I would like to ask you, the setup of your page is more like a funnel to get the prospect to click on the oreder button. Is that right. Whereas the blog setup has more places to click taking away from the chance of a conversion?

Thanks, your Blogg is done very well for first site..cool

I thinking more like getting them to sign up for that blogg..with just a bit more convincing know what I mean

Sure I was also thinking if it was a newsletter...well the kind of page I did there could have the sign up top and bottom..using an autoresponder service and build your list.

Your doing well...lots of good tips your getting too !!

If you can offer a free report or something more value added to convince them to subscribe, that would be good. Even if it's just a quarterly newsletter of another product, or tips. That should help you build up your list and allow you to pre-promote your next product.

Otherwise it's a great site, nice work

I agree, I was quite surprised because I expected something from a complete newbie, cause that's how it came across, but it is a very good site.

I was surprised you don't have adsense on it or anything else to monetise it??

      Well done.

I think it looks good. I am just trying to get some sites up as well.

Can you give some indication of how long it took to get this up and running?

Can you fit in some moving video footage in that coming soon area? The gif with week 1 and week 12 pics are good but throw up some video footage on your niche, imo.

I'm surprised to say but it looks awesome man. Good job doing your research. Is there a reason you didn't install WordPress into the root directory? The only thing I would've changed is doing that.

    It looks nice

    ...HOWEVER...
Is it a website or a blog?

If its a website the formatting needs to be less blogish because it looks like a lot like a blog and people expect certain things from a blog.

If its a blog you need to remove some ad's because its way spammy.

If its a website I see it as a merch site trying to make some sales. I don't trust the information because I know I'm being sold something.

If its a blog, I don't trust the author because the content is not personal enough and its CLEAR they are just trying to sell stuff.

It looks nice but I'm not sure about how well its going to function.

Good looking site. Much better than my first one.

Anyway, I noticed that you were using Hostgator and that your probably installed Wordpress using Fantastico. You may have did this on purpose but when I checked the root of your site their was nothing there. In case you didn't know you could have added the blog to the root of your domain instead of attaching it to the end.

If you have other plans for the root of your domain, I apologize, but just wanted to make sure that your were aware of the info above.

    Good start.

Good effort for your first website. At least you are taking some serious actions.

To get opt-in and sales, you need to put more emotion in your headline and content. You need to "connect" with your audience on an emotional level to make them trust you.

You need to find out why they want to gain serious muscles. Are they going for competition or wanting to impress a girl they just know.

If you can put this emotion stuff on your website, your audience will be shocked that you actually know what they are thinking and they will trust you completely and will buy anything you recommend.

Thanks so much everyone! I'll definitely implement some of the advice and changes in the site.

Oh, and the coming soon section at the top is for a free ebook that I made and will be giving away for free. I just haven't gotten to aweber yet. I figure I should try driving some traffic to the site first.

Thanks again, you've all been a great help!

      Site looks good.

      2 problems:

week 1 / week 12 pictures look like hype and would put me off. I would not expect to go from overweight to muscle bound in 12 weeks. More realistic is 12 week guy with 'firmer' body and not muscles.

in 'Drop the lazy attitude and motivate yourself!' section you should not have the bullet points. Bullet points suggest a list, but you only have one paragraph in each subsection

    hi,
looks nice and to the point.I like "get ripped with these technique" tag under the logo. You could incorporate some affiliate links on weight loss or muscle making machines (bowflex for ex),which is hot area to make money online as we all know.I think some more links to other sites that may be useful on this topic would be helpful.Designwise, looks awsome.

The copy is a bit long for my taste but its understandable considering your product.

Your "first" site? This site makes you look like a seasoned pro

My only recommendation (aside from others here) is that you create a redirect page for your aff links. Create a directory called "recommends" or something like that, and create a redirect page so that your links don't look like affiliate links.

Great job... really this site is nice.

Site looks good. I think it would help you in the long run to have an opt in with a "free" give away. A report, cd, or some type of video. This can help you build your list.

Hey mate, I couldn't reply to your PM because I don't have fifteen posts. =( But here's the answer to your question:

Yes, you move everything through ftp. This is the link I was directing you to: codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress (first result on Google.)

Scroll down to the heading "Moving WordPress Within Your Site" and follow the step by step instructions (make sure to do everything in order to avoid any mishaps.) For Step #9, you want to log into your main website (gain-serious-muscle.com/) via ftp and copy everything from the /blog/ directory into the parent directory, which is the root level of the site.

I use HostGator to host, so for me the parent directory of /blog/ would be /public_html/ Make sure you make a backup copy of everything already in there before you copy Wordpress (in case it overwrites anything like index.php)

You'll also may need to update your permalinks (currently I think you use Numeric, I use Custom: /%postname%/ because it's good for SEO ) and some image paths, but it covers all that as well.

Let me know if you need any more help. =)
