Do You Use Amazon Affiliate Links?

So, I'm working on a product for affiliates using Amazon and was hoping for some quick feedback from you guys that also use Amazon Affiliates/Associates.

The problem as I see it is we can't track conversions to traffic sources, campaigns, etc. and thus can't optimize our traffic accordingly.

If there were a product that allowed for tracking down to the campaign & source (maybe further) level, would there be interest in it?

Feel free to bring up any problems you see with this idea or functions you'd see as necessary. (or if a solution already exists)

For anyone that helps out, I'll make sure you get first stab at using the product and at least a discount (if not some free copies for those that are helpful)

    I think we can use any link tracking, one of them we can use wp plugin (I use wp a lot) like ninja affiliate (if Im not mistaken) from max blog press ...
    but if you can automate the whole system of how it works, I think you can create a product that sells like candy.

      does Ninja track conversions (purchases on amazon)? I thought it just rewrote your links into affiliate links. Do they provide tracking as well so I can see what source/campaign/etc. each purchase can be attributed to?

    There are already at least two things you can do to track conversions with Amazon Affiliates. First, you can create Amazon tracking IDs for various campaigns and you could use these tracking IDs on your website or various other marketing methods. Ideally your website would have functionality to put one of a number of tracking IDs onto the links depending on the traffic source. The problem with this is you might end up with a ton of Amazon tracking IDs, but it's definitely the most accurate way to do what you describe.

    Another option is to track clicks to Amazon using your analytics software. For instance, Google Analytics allows you to do event tracking very easily. In this case, however, you won't be able to actually track the user behavior all the way through to the Amazon purchase -- a conversion would essentially be a click from your site to Amazon not the actual purchase from Amazon. That said, if you assume that campaigns have about the same conversion rate once they get to Amazon (which may or may not be a good assumption), it could be a decent proxy for Amazon conversion tracking. At least in my case, this method works pretty well.

    As for interest in a product as you describe it, of course there would be interest -- but I'm not sure how you'd accomplish it on a technical level other than creating Amazon tracking IDs.

      A form of that first option you describe is how we plan on going about it. It looks like it will be a wp-plugin (to begin) that would also populate a dashboard in WP with your conversion data on Amazon.

      At least that is the plan so far. Having your campaign/source data alongside your amazon conversion data to be able to see revenue results connect to different ad canmpaigns etc.
