An Economical Way to Build a Quality Website?

Hi Guys

I know that quality websites cost hundreds/thousands of dollars (which I don't have!). I hate cheap looking websites so would really like to know if it's possible for a newbie to build a free/low cost quality website? I'm not opposed to spending money on my business but I don't have a great deal of cash so am interested to know if there is such a thing as a free/low cost quality option.

I look forward to hearing your advice.

Places that offer hosting often have website builders. For example, GoDaddy has a pretty decent website builder with a number of templates. Other places that offer hosting have website builders too.

Of course it's possible! Wordpress is a wonderful and high quality tool. I built this site here off of Wordpress and it looks professionally done, plus it only cost me $11.99 which was the cost of the domain name. There is a lot of css change and such but you can get the point. I would suggest starting with Wordpress. Free and easy!

I use wordpress as well. There are plenty of free templates out there. If you can afford it, there are also plenty cheap wordpress themes on places like elegant themes or themeforest

I have heard good things about wordpress but I've also heard that these sites are vulnerable to cyber attacks. Will I need to learn how to make the site secure too?

There are plenty of resources out there that can help secure your website from hackers. Also simple things like having a complicated password, making sure you username for logging into wordpress is not something very basic such as admin, and adding plugins that limit login attempts. Also make sure to backup your site at least once a week, if not more. I've never had a problem with my website though.

Use a Wordpress site with hosting. Wordpress is the best website builder and hoster hands down for smaller websites or blog.

Though Wordpress is a good option, you will need a deluxe or paid theme for your site to have a professional look. Don't use the standard free theme that comes with the Wordpress installation or your site will look really cheap. There are many premium or paid themes online and some free themes that actually look good. Just keep looking around till you find one.

Wordpress is a good option. Lots of themes and lots of plugins to jump start with a professionally looking website. Security is an issue but you can follow basic rules and install useful plugins to keep safe.
I agree that you better find a professionally looking theme for your website. I can recommend this service WordPress Blog Installation, Setup, Hosting, Content & SEO Services

They provide professional themes with lots of other options included and for additional fees. You get your turnkey website saving your time and efforts.
However if you are serious about online business you better start learning the basics yourself.

I'm with the WordPress group too. There are plenty of good looking themes out there you can get for free and if you know how to make some changes yourself it could end up looking top notched.

There are also a lot of paid themes which aren't just good looking but are cheap as well. Elegant Themes has a collection of such themes for one low price.

There is always a way. Even when you start to outsource it nowadays you can get a really nice looking site for cheap bucks. Another way would be to get a premium site made for you on this site FreeBlogFactory.com - Free WordPress Blog Setup - Free Blog Factory but the catch is that you have to get hosting with their affiliate link.

I don't believe you have to spend money on a WordPress theme in order to find a professional looking one. Try this site for suggestions:

120 Free WordPress Themes from Premium Theme Developers

There are ways to get started on a shoe string including, as other have said, free plug-ins to handle security.

Good luck on your new project.

Thanks for your offer of help. I'll see how much I can manage on my own. I get the impression that it's not as difficult as I'd assumed.

Sure no problem. Wordpress is actually very simple. It becomes even more fun and creative once you can dive into the css and make virtually any theme your own.

As so many before me have stated, WordPress is an amazingly cheap and accessible way to build a website. As for security concerns, simply install a plugin called WordFence (it's completely free, just search for it) and you're covered.

I really like WordPress platform for website creation. It is easy to customize it. but I will advise you against using free themes. Long back in my starting career I had used a free theme. After Google update, I received a message from the theme creators to remove any links that linked back to their site. Since then I have never used free themes.
