What do you think about these new domain extensions being sold now like .club, .guru, .reviews or .expert.

Well I think domain companies already grabbed the premium ones.

i personally think they sound silly and haven't really seen anyone using them (though I'm sure there are..)

I don't think all the good ones are taken yet. I just bought healthcareproduct.reviews. Some I searched for had already been taken.

I think it will be many years before people will consider typing in those extensions. There are still ways to get good .com, .net, and .org domains without having to resort to those.

Take a look at the booking.yeah commercials.(I don't actually think that is an extension?)

Yet, it is introducing to the public and getting them used to this type of extension.

If a few more companies start using them in their ads, they will catch on. I think it's just a matter of time.

Funny, I was going to use the same example. Booking.yeah gets roughly 1,300 monthly searches. (.yeah is not an actual extension)

Most of the newer extensions are, of course, gimmicky. But could make for some great advertisements/marketing messages for the creative types.

These could possibly be great for feeder type promotions which drives traffic to the main domain similar to Priceline's Online Commencement Speech campaign: tryworkingforalivingwhileyouregoingtoschool.com. (even though it's a .com, it's still gimmicky and the same concept could easily be applied with the new extensions)

Who knows, even 'the little guy' might be able to make some cash off these if you get in early. Personally, I think there's some opportunity there if you play it right even through simple affiliate sites which can later be flipped.

Even plain 301 redirects may receive higher CTR when driving traffic from 3rd party sites or PPC so it's something to test.

It will be interesting to see moving forward whether these extensions will have any effect...

I think they're .crap and wouldn't waste a dime on them. Good for making registrars richer and little else.

Perhaps the premium one's will be worth something in 10+ years...

As for now they are basically worthless imo.

I wouldn't go ahead buying a domain like that to start my business, a .com is king and will always be king.

Previous extensions like .info are already deemed as lower quality and I don't see how these will be much different

  • I think they are great! The more the better!

I probably won't be using any for my own business.

(Nor will I be buying many for my little domaining business-on-the-side.)

I think ".club" and ".zone" are quite nice. I'm sure those two will find some uses.

But with my "affiliate marketer's hat" on, I have almost zero interest in the whole lot of them.

    lol

Booking.yeah is not a real url, and .yeah is not a real extension. It is just a clever marketing campaign.

I think we are at the dawn of a radical shift in how the internet will work. More like pre-dawn actually. I think it will be a good generation before people start accepting new domain extensions naturally.

But, due to some of the big players behind this shift, I do not believe the whole thing is going to fail. There will be individual winners and losers for sure. Probably a lot more losers than winners. It is just going to take some time to sort it all out, and as the winners emerge more and more people will start using them.

It will take time before that feels natural. But it will happen.

HOWEVER... one thing that is inevitable is that the business of domain speculation will be drastically impacted. Eventually, .com domains will lose their inherent dominant position as more companies adopt either winning alternatives or their own brands as new domain extensions (i.e. .pepsi)

And once .com is no longer king of the hill, its inherent value will drop. In other words, if there are 500 decent alternatives to mybusiness.com out there, nobody is going to pay $5k to acquire mybusiness.com anymore. It will be mybusiness.travel, or mybusiness.credit, or whatever.

They say change is good. For speculators, this one is not going to be so good.

Yes, everyone on here should already know that... (I went back and edited my original post just in case)

But that doesn't stop the 1,300 people searching for it each month which was part of the point of my post that different extensions can be used effectively in marketing campaigns.

I was just saying it was not an extension that I was aware of. I said it differently but meant the same as what your saying.
