Newbies... don't get distracted by gimmicks!

I just want to let all the beginners out there know that the secret to your success does not lie in video, bum-trafficking, stomping or whatever latest whiz-bang thing going around.

Let's take video for instance. If you listen to other marketers and look at the WSOs it's easy to feel you're not going to make it if you don't have video. But let me tell you, I've been making a decent living online now for going on 3 years and I still don't have a video.

Sure, video is great - I don't dispute that - but you need a good product for it and you need to know your marketing first. Video is not a priority.

Same goes for all the other flashy "must haves" out there. I don't have a squeeze page or a list. And I don't use pop-ups. I don't even have a blog... just a good old-fashioned website. But I've focused on the key parts of my business like building a good product and customer service.

So don't be distracted or feel discouraged because you're not up to snuff on all this stuff.
The important thing is to build a business first with a solid plan and discipline. The rest will come in time.

    Hello David

    Quite true.

Someone should write a 1/2 (ie 0.5) page report on the things that you REALLY need to know/do to start making money online.

It would save a lot of people a lot of time and angst.

But they probably wouldn't believe it!

    Cheers,

    Neil

I so agree with everything on this thread. Anyone wanting a "1/2-page report" can look at the one I created for Warriors. I posted it on the Success Forum here, or you can read more by clicking my signature line.

      Be blessed everyone!

While I agree with your overall sentiments on what you try to convey in your message, I'd have to disagree with you about video being the latest "wiz bang".

You could actually use video as a complete and separate marketing strategy as a stand-alone method.

But I wouldn't recommend it for somebody first starting out into Internet marketing because they wouldn't understand the core principles of what they were trying to accomplish from a marketing standpoint.

      Now about Bum marketing....

Bum marketing is actually one of the inherent fundamental methods of marketing, using articles and free traffic sources which can give you traffic to any website that you wish, whether it's a free blog or your own hosted site, or even directly as an affiliate.

David, I like your philosophy, it is always my bias when looking at anything, efficacy and efficiency that is.

But it takes more time to do it this way. Folks must learn about your website very gradually, but they return based on your great product and your services. Fair enough.

But I'd guess you're shipping a real, hard product, something not easy to just duplicate, like a bunch of ebooks are?

David, I do not completely agree...

You've got your marketing methods - I've got mine...

I would NEVER recommend to a newbie to start Internet Marketing with building a website. Websites usually take a while to turn in profit...

I would say a Squidoo/Blog to start, Articles to get traffic and first sales...

A websites requires SEO and lots of understanding, if you want your site to actually make $$$.

... and another thing, you said No Video, No Bum Marketing... So You Suggest Newbies to start with PAID traffic and Lose $$$? If not, than they have to use FREE methods to get traffic. And Bum Marketing is pretty much the ONLY method... except SEO.

Bum Marketing = Articles, Free Ads, Videos on Youtube and other video sites, Social Bookmarking - and well, everything else that does not require an investment. So how do you get people to your site without using FREE techniques and without PAYING for traffic...

... or am I missing your point?
