To blog or not to Blog ?

Seriously, is it better to just get on with it and put up a landing page with product and Auto responder and then do all the appropriate SEO [ articles etc], or would a Static site [ content related] be better, and sell my ebooks/videos etc through appropriate hub pages.

Not clear on what you are asking, but here is what I've found workds best.

    1. You have a sales page from which you sell your product - this could be static html or a Wordpress single page theme, but shouldn't have any distractions such as columns or links to click away.

    2. You ideally have a "squeeze page" that gives away something to get people to join your list - by getting them to join your list you improve your chances of selling your product AND you can continue the relationship with your list to sell them more (and even different) stuff over the months and years to come. Your squeeze page could either be static html or Wordpress theme as above - single page, no distractions.

    3. A blog with dynamic pages with the purpose of providing dynamic content (example - daily updates, comments to your postings, rss backlinks, etc...) which drives traffic to your blog. Your blog should have "off-ramps" to your squeeze page and sales page to drive the flood of traffic you will generate to your squeeze and money pages. Typically a dynamic blog will have a different theme than the blog you may have used for your squeeze and sales page (if indeed you did decide to use a blog to construct those pages).

    Hope that helps,

    What I mean ?
is it worthwhile to blog in order to sell a product effectively.[ like an ebook in a particular
    niche for example].

Blogging really helps create trust and authority.
Not to mention all the great google organic longtail traffic!

My blog posts are usually helpful, and people end up thanking me in the comments for the work put into the blog. At that point they're very likely to listen to what I recommend and might feel a debt or obligation to at least read my emails.

    Only blog if you:

Already have an audience you can leverage(newsletter? twitter following? powerful friends that can bring traffic to you). Blogging from scratch sucks.

Part of your strategy is to establish relationships with other bloggers and therefore acquire links and market awareness.

You want to establish a deeper, perhaps more personal relationship with your clients. Fancy comment interaction?
