Hi,
I have a question about keyword search,I would appreciate if someone can guide me.
I use wordtracker and google adwords keyword tool to know the number of searches/month for a particular keyword.
The problem is for a particular keyword wordtracker shows only 240 searches/month,whereas goggle keyword tool shows 8100 search volume for the month of may.
What should I trust?I am debating since I am going to do my backlinking etc.based on that keyword,if wordtracker is right there is not enoough search for the keyword. But if google is right then I can go ahead with it.
What do you suggest for such a situation?
Thanks,
Pinky

    Hi, Pinky.

Are you sure that the result from Wordtracker is per month, and not per day?

Beside that there is always a difference between different keyword tools, because they are all based on estimate.

Always use keyword tools as a guidance, not as an fact.

    I hope this helps,

    Kindly regards,

    Oddvar.

      Hi Oddvar,
Thanks for your reply. The per day search is around 8 for the keyword in wortracker.I multiplied that by 30 so I got around 240/month.
I am confused because there is a huge difference here.If wortracker gave me around 2000-3000 searches/month as compared to 8100 from goggle,I could still draw a rough conclusion. But I dont know what to conclude from this data.I am not sure if I should go ahead with that keyword or just drop it.Is there any way I could draw a conclusion from this data?
      Thanks,
      Pinky

Hmmm, that is a big difference.

What do Google keyword tool give you as result with exact phrase?

    Thanks for your reply Oddvar,
Even when I put the keywords in quotes it shows the same amount of searches in google i.e.8100 for may.

      Hi.

What did you mean by this: "Even when I put the keywords in quotes it shows the same amount of searches in google i.e.8100 for may."?

What kind of google keyword tool are you using?

Are you talking about Google, or https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal?

Ok, you are using the right tool, but if you want to find the search volum for exact phrase you need to use the "Exact match" and not the "broad match".

It is not helping you using the quotes as in Google.com.

You find this option at the right side of the screen. Look at the phrase: Match type:, and scroll down to "exact".

Also take the advise from "ebizman87", he give you some good links for good information here.

          Take care.

Thank you so much Oddvar and ebizman87,
Now it makes sense. With the exact match it shows only 58 searches/month in google.I suppose its not a great keyword I am targetting afterall!
I am checking out all the links.I will definately take action,I just didn't want to take the wrong action.
            Thanks so much again,

    Hi Pinks,

I suggest you rely on Wordtracker. Wordtracker is based on actual searches whiles Googles keyword tool is based on estimates off broad phrase matches.

From my article marketing I have had measurable results using the keyword phrases from Wordtracker. Eight searches per day may not look a lot but if you think in terms of "groups" of keywords then it becomes a whole different story.

A group set of 8 with approximately 2 - 8 searches each compound over time and bring you the results you need provided you know how to leverage your keywords.

Check out this free keyword guide:

    Keyword Research Guide - Wordtracker

It helped me a great deal and I hope it helps you too!
