Is there a service that will give me online access to my customers' computers?

Hi All,

I have several clients where I visit their homes and clean up the garbage on their PCs once in a while.

It would be so much easier if I could visit them via the Internet, with their permission of course.

Is there a service that will let me sign on to my clients PC from my PC over the Internet and run applications like CCleaner, Hijackthis etc?

    Hi George,

There are several ways to do it.

You can use a software app like PCAnywhere, VNC server etc.. or you can use the built-in windows tool call remote desktop access.

Or - you can use an online service like Webex which aswell as being great for training and teaching will let a person on the other end give control of their application, desktop etc. to you.

I use this a lot. It's great for showing someone something and when they say "yeah, but on my machine it's different" you just get them to share their desktop and you do it for them.

I've had a lot of problems getting vnc and windows remote desktop to connect to my clients' machines. I've spent countless hours messing with firewalls, dns settings, router settings, dmz settinngs all to no avail.

However now I always use TeamViewer because it works.
It connects every time, you don't have to run an installer, it's easy to use and it's free.

I love it and my customers that need my help love it as well.

I've never had any real problems using any of the tools mentioned and I've been doing this for 20 years, so I think most of it comes down to what you're used to and properly configured infrastructure.

Webex always works and I use it on a weekly basis from all over the world currently.

VNC I use regularly and always works for me.

Windows remote desktop I use fairly frequently and works when I do.

The other systems I've used over the years but have no need now because the ones I've mentioned work for me.

As with anything like this - it's best just to find a tool you're comfortable with and that works in the environment you need and then stick with it.

    Hi George,

I've used net viewer (admin version) with success.

It lets you remotely assist/control your customers' computers online.

    Commercial:
    - Logmein www.logmein.com a bit pricey but this is the mother of all remote assistance software
I agree 100%! I set my company up on logmein and it works great.

My set up is to a drone desktop in the office that my sales people can log into after office hours and fax, email, print the the office printer.

Great service, I highly recommend it.

there are loads out there. i work for a technical support company, and if the member cant follow simple instructions, we normally turn on the remote control. what happens is that the member has to be online, and we send a request to him for access to his computer, and he has to accept the request and grant access. and we try to fix the problem from our end, and at the same time, member can stay and have a look at whats happening - to make sure we are not opening folders that are not related ...
    netmeeting its called.
