Is it Viable to Build WP site for Clients with Bluehost?

Hi, found this idea, not sure if it works or not, so l just wanted to post it here, to see if any people with WP client site experience, think that it is viable?

Basically create a site, for a client, they buy Bluehost hosting, and you, (HOPEFULLY) get $65 up front?

The only thing that scares me about this, is Bluehost costs $12.50 for the first month then goes to $25 a month!

And the $65 is conditional that the client stays with their blog for 2 months before you get the profit?

Sounds like, most pull the plug, after getting slogged the $25 a month for a month of so, and go create a free one instead?

Appreciate some feedback!

I have multiple clients for whom we've developed WP sites. We also take care of all the hosting ourselves. I would suggest that the idea you outlined is a bad idea. A far more lucrative idea would be to provide them with their own hosting account through either a Shared Hosting Reseller Account, a VPS, or a Dedicated Server. Obviously a Shared Hosting account would be cheapest but a VPS would be a better option for various reasons.

You can then charge your client for the website you are doing for them and you make a small recurring income from the hosting you provide to them. The fee they pay will very quickly offset your initial investment cost.

I have never tried to sell hosting to a client via an affiliate program but instead earn a lot more money from simply being the provider myself.

    Hope that helps

Thanks John, sounded a bit dodgy!

VPS? So you are saying that l could invest in a Proxy Server, if l remember my terms, and sell them a site on that platform, so technically it is my space, but still hosted on somecompanys server?

Or l have to pay the rent on that space, but can offer it to others, for a small monthly fee?

So even if most pull the plug after a short time, it would still work?

Am l on the right track or is there something else involved?

And do you advertise using social media or paid?

By VPS I mean Virtual Private Server. This server can be with any large and reputable hosting provider. If you know very little about hosting and server management I would suggest simply getting a Hosting Reseller Account as this would be the easiest route to start with (and the cheapest).

When looking for a Reseller Hosting Account, go for one that includes WHM & Cpanel. You will be provided with access details once you are signed up. You can then login to your WHM control panel and from there you can create client or personal hosting accounts. Basically you will get a specific amount of Disc Space and Bandwidth, etc. that you can then provision into specific hosting packages for your clients.

What is nice about doing things this way is that your clients will have their own Cpanel access for their domain name. This just means that they can login to Cpanel which is their own Hosting Management Control Panel. From there the client can create their own email accounts, etc. Most Cpanel accounts will also come with a built-in tool called Fantastico which will allow you or your client to very easily install WordPress onto their domain.

Your monthly cost for one of these Reseller Hosting Accounts will be very minimal and will ensure that you recover your monthly fee + some profit on the first 2 or 3 clients. Once you have multiple clients you will always be profitable even when some of your clients eventually leave, although if you are able to keep your clients happy they will never have any reason to leave. We have clients today (after 10 years) that joined us on day one of our business and they are still with us.

I own a Digital Marketing Company so we use various marketing strategies to find clients but in the very beginning, before I had any actual business, I found my first clients by simply letting friends and family know that I provide this service and they in turn told others. Once you have your first happy client they will almost always refer others that might be looking to get what you provide. A very important thing here is to always stay clear of any form of spamming to get clients. Also never try to simply sell to clients. Instead offer value and advice and they will ask you for the sale, instead of the other way around.

Happy clients can make you rich. Unhappy clients can destroy your business.

I love the saying that "People love to buy but they hate to be sold to". We do not sell to clients directly. We instead provide value and they then ask for the sale.
